Strange CM Question

I have an extremely strange question. I have a friend who has a relative that works for DW in the summers. Her relative has told her that she could book them a room in December at a value, they'll get 40% off and free park tickets. Is that true? If it is, I need to find a relative that works at Disney :)

I don't know any personally but have been told that the CM's get bonus and such that include free tickets to the parks, dinners, room discounts etc. I am assuming that this CM is just offering to give there family their bonus/discount.

That's a pretty good deal. I seriously need to find a distant relative that works for Disney.

I believe CM's get 5 room discounts to give out a year. My brother worked for Epcot way back in 1997. He still has friends that work there, so he's getting the room discount when we go this fall. He's paying the same price per night at POR that we are paying at All Star with a AAA discount. They also get a certain number of park passes per year to hand out. If I'm not mistaken the benefits differ between employees - when my brother worked there he only got 40% off, but some CM's he knew got 50%.

When my nephew did a college internship he only go 2 free tickets and ever the politician he gave one to his Mom and one to his girlfriend! He got us a discount but honestly it was about the same as ticketmania. We had a friend that worked for Disney in management and he only got so many free passes a year to, more than 2 but not as many as you would think, I think it was so many a month but not enough to get all his friends in on their vacations.

My brother works for ESPN, which is owned by Disney.
We have gone with him in the past and here are some of the discounts he gets...

-50% off rooms. Unlimited useage. You may book rooms for family and friends, but you have to be in one of the rooms and this is limited to 5 reservations per year.

-He and his wife get a Silver Pass, which allows each passholder and 3 guests to
enter any park worldwide, except for the waterparks.

-He also gets 4 complimentary passes each summer and winter, and can give these to others to use.

-He gets 35% off at the Disney stores, and 20% off at most of the restaurants in DW, but they add an 18% tip when you do that, and you sometimes have to go at off hours.

He also told me that if you are a "Florida" castmember, you can get additional discounts like 50% off to Cirque de Soleil, waterparks, Disney Quest.

I'm with ya Indianadisneyfan! I know her cousin only works there in the summers because of college. She won't be in the room with them though, she's just making the reservations.

I had a friend whose sister did her internship there a couple of years ago. She also got 50% off of Disney cruises, too. I've thought about getting a "seasonal" job at DW just to get the discounts! I've been told their "seasonal" employees work some holidays and other busy times. It would be worth the drive to get the discounts! I just need for Disney to hire a nurse practitioner! :rotfl:

Wow! Parks and resorts CM's do NOT get the same level of perks as ESPN employees!

The 40% is the discount she can get because she is not staying in the room, ie giving her discount to family/friends. It can go up to 50% if it was for her. FT CM's are limited to 5 per year, seasonal might be less than that. Also, there are a limited number of these CM spaces available. They obviously don't set aside very many CM discount spaces when it is peak season, right? So depending on the time of year, you may not even be able to use your discount at many of the resorts.

Free tickets? Only if she has been hoarding the ones she gets at the summer and winter bonus package. If she is single with no dependents - I think that is only 2 a year. A seasonal CM would only have a Blue maingate and I seem to remember hearing that it had either been taken away already or would be. Sorry, I will have to ask someone seasonal about that.

Dining is the flat 20% CM discount with the 18% tip added in. That is IF the restaurant allows CM discounts and it is before 4 pm or after 8:30 pm. (The DDP has bumped CM's from using their discounts during these times.)

There is no "regular" discount to Cirque, Disney Quest or the Water Parks, but every now and then they will offer a half off type special for half day or after 1 pm tickets.

Disney cruises kind of work the same. With 40 to 50% discounted spaces opening up with as little as 3 weeks left before cruise date. But not always offered. At least that is how it was set up the last time I looked at doing a cruise. (Couldn't get the time off that close - so I didn't take one.)

Do Disney CMs still get a discount at the Disney Stores, even though Disney doesn't own them anymore?
(oh, and Jeffdz...how *did* you make your DIS'nick look like that, without any posts, or PMs, just your nick.)

agnes!

So it's like the AAA discount and free DDP, there are only so many rooms reserved for CMs? Seriously, need to get a friend/family to work for DW. I couldn't do it - can't stand Florida in summer, too hot/humid for me.
