I just got a call asking me to go to a dinner that will be going over changes in our timeshare. Of course I declined and indicated that I am not interested in selling. The person called me right back and assured me that was not the case. I told her it was a scam of some sort and not to call me again. Has anyone gone to such an event? What goes on at these? has anyone gone? Just curious.

did she say what company she is from? was it DVC? if so, I'd report to member services, or it could just be a timeshare resale company trying to drum up business? :confused3

It definitely was not DVC. It was very vague. i was speaking with member services today about another matter snd brought this up. they had no idea. I frequently get calls and mailings but never an invite for dinner. I am just curious what these "meetings" are like!

Probably want to SELL you another timeshare. I'd do exactly what you did. If they're paying for dinner, you can bet they will be using some high pressure sales tactics.

They can get names and contact info from public records, but they should be running them against the Do Not Call lists. Many don't bother.

It could be a timeshare sales but is more likely a "Pay us to sell your timeshare" meeting or even more likely, one of the "my travel club is better than your timeshare" presentations.

I get those calls about every other month. Sometimes a few a week. They tell me they are representing RCI and will help me with using my timeshare.

I have gotten a few strange calls like that but not in the last few months. They were very sneaky and almost had me thinking they were DVC but then I figured it out when I asked them a few questions they should have known the answer to . THEY are tricky sometimes

They usually tell me that they are going to help me get the most use out of my timeshare. So I ask them what is my timeshare? They tell me my RCI-affiliated timeshare. So I ask them what timeshare do I own? I keep them on the phone a while and they either give up or I do. I've had them hang up on me once when I kept asking questions.

I felt obligated to comment because I got a call like that, too. These scammers do not respect other people's privacy indeed. They call people any time most convenient TO THEM. But I don't think their schemes are effective, though. People are now more aware and updated on how phone scams are perpetrated.

Whenever I get a call like that, or any suspicious call, I hang up and get the phone number blocked.

I also make it a point to report the scam to CALLERCENTER and post the scammer's phone number for everybody to see. I think it helps when people know whose phone call not to accept.
