Strange Animal Event in My Backyard.

This is second time this has happened. We have large birds down here called Ospreys.

They can have a wingspan of up to 54 inches!! I take one of our cats out everyday around 2 p.m. for a some yard time. Well today it happened again. I'm about 15 feet away from the cat plucking weeds and I stood up to check and see where he was at. What I see next is an Osprey maybe 50 feet up heading right towards the cat! Good grief, what did he think he was going to do... pick him up and carry him off? The cat weighs about 18 pounds.

I waved my arms and the bird went in another direction but, like I said, this is the second time I've seen this happen.

It's a jungle down here.

Oooh Osprey are so beautiful!

And actually yes it probably did think your kitty was food, although they primarily eat fish so it would be weird. Sounds like it wouldn't have gotten too far with your cat but that could cause some major damage to kitty if the osprey actually got ahold of it. Be careful!!

Sounds like he wanted food for the babies! Your poor kitty. We have Ospreys up here and they're magnificent. Watch that cat!

Osprey are fully capable of killing a cat. Be careful.
