This has probably been asked before, but what can you tell me about StraightTalk phones & service?

They are exclusively sold on the Straight Talk website and at participating Walmart stores.

Service is $45 month for unlimited talk/text/web.

Service providers are:

  • Sprint for any Android phone
  • Verizon or AT&T for all other phones
There are no contracts, which makes things attractive -- if you don't like the service, you can cancel without any penalties (can't do that with the big contract carriers).

Also, if you have a favorite AT&T or T-Mobile phone lying-around and doing nothing, you can buy a Straight Talk SIM card and insert it in your old phone with unlimited services for $45 a month.

Hope this helps...

I've been curious about these phone as well. Do they charge the same amount of tax per phone as a phone on a plan? Right now we're paying over $10 per phone in taxes a phone and when we had a pay as you go phone it wasn't nearly as much.

From what I understand, the taxes are already built-into the $45 a month pricing (as it goes with most "prepaid" type phones).

I have a question about this as well...I have an iphone that is almost out of service. I love it and I know people say it can be converted to a Straight Talk phone with a sim card, but I'm afraid to do it because knowing me I would break the iphone. If I buy a ST phone and use that, once my plan is up will I be able to use my iphone just as basically an ipod?

That's probably a really dumb question but I don't know the answer lol so feel free to enlighten me. :lmao:

Yes, your AT&T iPhone can be easily (and legally) converted to ST -- there are multiple tutorial videos on YouTube on how to do this. If you have a Verizon or Sprint iPhone, this will not work, since those carriers use a different cell phone technology.

And yes, once the phone feature stops working, the iPhone should have the same functions as an iPod Touch.

I have a straight talk phone and I only do the 1000 min and 1000 text for just $30 a month
I switched from my iphone to this phone and its great
I bought it from walmart and buy the card for 1000 new minutes once a month
I was able to switch my phone number over as well
great call quality and actually more coverage then when I had the iphone! less drop zones!!

Saves me almost $100 a month. TOTALLY worth it I have been nothing but happy with it.

We paid about $4.50 tax/fees each month for the StraightTalk $45.00 unlimited plan ... total = $49.50 ish ... this was thru StraightTalk online ... YMMV
:teacher:

Now we have the AT&T GoPhone $50.00 unlimited = $50.00 total (no tax) ... paid online thru AT&T GoPhone ... Better service (Customer Service & area coverage).
