Has anyone tried Straight Talk Cell Phones? I am looking at ways to reduce my cell phone costs and this seems like a good deal for $30 a month, but I am wondering about reliability and service? Thanks popcorn::

It is great my bill went from 60 to 30. The service works better than my old phone. They use the Verizon network I believe. I live in the sticks and havent had a problem

I switched from Sprint to Straight Talk six months ago and haven't looked back. Service is fantastic in my area, easy to refill and I have never dropped a call.

we gave our daughter a ST phone and she has the unlimited everything for $45.00. She is responsible for paying her own bill, so if she does not get any $$$ then her services are cut off:). It motivates her to keep a job and not be lazy:rotfl:.

I had Straight Talk. I really had no issues with them, and I recommend them to people who are looking for a contract-free phone for a good price.

For me, I switched to AT&T because I really wanted the features of a smart phone, and I couldn't get that through Straight Talk. I have an iPhone and pay three times :scared1: the monthly rate of Straight Talk, but I use the features and it is the one thing I splurge on each month.

I use straight talk (going on about 6 months now) and have been happy with it. I have the blackberry style phone. The internet is incredibly slow, but I knew that when I opted for this over a data plan with a 3G phone.
My husband had straight talk for 2 months and had nothing but problems with it. He is back with another company.
I think straight talk is great until you need help through their customer assistance. Then good luck.

We switched to straight talk about 2-3 months ago and love it, we have not had any problems and we have better service than we did with ATandT. I love the savings too it saved us about $160.00 a month, and over a year that really adds up. I did not have any problems with customer service when I called in, actually the rep that helped me was very nice and I did not have to wait forever for someone to answer. I highly reccomend straight talk!!!

The price is great. I have never had a call dropped. Customer service leaves a little to be desired.

Question. When I signed up, my minutes rolled over up until August (form March). Then they reverted back to the 1000 minutes.
Anyone else have this happen? I am hoping they roll over again!

Yep!
This happened to me and my father (who was the one who got me to sign-up for straight talk). I was thinking that maybe they were never meant to roll over and they finally fixed the problem. Whatever the reason is, I miss my extra minutes.

I miss the extra minutes too.
Although I never used them, it was nice to use the phone and it said "you have 42 hours and 28 minutes".

It is such a good deal that having to recharge a few days early is not the end of the world! Beats a $50+ bill every month!

OK. I have a question about how these work. Is it you have 1000 mins for $30 until you USE those minutes. Or is it you have 1000 mins for 30 days and then have to refill and lose anything you didn't use? Also, it says a month on some things and 30 days on others...which is it? Does it give you warning that you are coming close to your time? Thanks!!

Just switched! Haven't really used the phone yet, other than a brief call, but all seems fine. I bought the phone at Walmart...got the LG 49.99 one because they didn't have the cheaper one in stock. I switched from ATT...and stupid me didn't realize my contract wasn't up until the end up this month (thought it was August) so I'm being charged $60 for cancelling early...but even with that, the savings is incredible. So make sure if you have a contract, that it's up before you switch. I ported my number and it took less than 24 hours.

Okay I BELIEVE it is this...

You get 1000 minutes for 30 days for $30. They are good for the 30 days.

However, if you use those minutes before the month is up, you can buy a new card and start it when you run out.

My minutes rolled over, but PPs stated this isn't happening anymore. I had Straight Talk from about October 2009 to January 2010.

Yup, every time you dial out on the phone it tells you how many minutes you have left.
And as was stated above, in other words, it is 30 days or 1000 minutes, which ever runs out first. I am on the auto plan so I don't have to buy the cards, it will refill automatically. And now it appears that when the 30 days is up the minutes you don't use, you lose.

How many minutes does it deduct per text?

Thanks

Not sure, but I know on the $45 plan it is all unlimited...talk, text, web, and something else I am forgetting:confused3

We have had ST since Christmas of last year and love it. It is on the Verizon network so very reliable. We have the $90 phones. But I am going to upgrade my husband to the better phone. (My local news just announced Walmart will have a new cellphone service on the T-Mobile network called Walmart Family Cell Phone service). You might want to check on that as well. Hummmm. But I do like ST, even thought my husband works for Verizon.
