Anyone had a child (or yourself) affected w/ this? My DD was diagnosed w/ mild case but seems to be worsening...TIA:goodvibes

My DD Amanda had it and had surgery when she was 3! She came through it fine, though can't say I did! So hard watching your little one go through that!!! She still wears glasses and lately I notice a SLIGHT cross with 1 eye so we may end up having her go under again eventually! I've heard that it is not uncommon to have Strabismus Surgery more than once. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me!

Yes, one of my DD's has problems with it. She had her first surgery back in March because her eyes were turned in with the left being worse than the right. They did surgery again in mid July because her left was still turning in. After that surgery, both of her eyes started drifting out. :headache:

They wanted to do surgery again, but dh and I wouldn't consent. They prescribed Atropine drops (blurs the vision in that eye to strengthen the other eye's muscles) to be put into her left eye because her right eye was turning out the worst. I took her to another pediatric opthamologist to get a second opinion and he said the eye drop was doing the job and he did not recommend surgery. Her regular opthamologist rechecked her a few weeks ago and he was amazed at how well the eye drops are working! :)

So far she has 20/20 vision so her's isn't caused by nearsightedness. The dr.'s have told us that her eyes don't properly receive the signal from her brain to work the muscles. I'm not sure what her end results will be.

ETA: DD is almost 2. I totally forgot to mention her age. me

currently, I have 4 kids. 3 got glasses (for all different eye issues!) by age 3!. I had strabismus (patched at about age 2). I needed glasses at about age 14.

Well, 2 of the 3 kids with glasses have strabismus. One's eyes go outward slightly (both eyes). She has eye exercises to try. The other's right eye turns inward to a horrifying extent, mostly without her glasses.

If you are seeing an optometrist for it, switch to a pediatric opthalmologist. There are only a few within an hour of me, and of those, only 2 are really recommended. It takes about 9 MONTHS to get in with them.

If you have any questions, or just need to talk to someone, lmk!

I had it & had surgery when I was 3, followed by patching to train me to use the weaker eye. I wear glasses (sporadically) because of mild astigmatism & near-sightedness.

I'm in my mid-40's and haven't had any problems or recurrence.
