In December we are going to do a quick, cheap, 2 night trip to DL. The price difference between stovalls and the quality inn on Manchester is $50 total. I know stovalls is rated much higher on tripadvisor but do you think it is worth $50 more when we will only be there for 2 nights? Really we just want a clean place to sleep with a free basic breakfast within walking distance. Thanks in advance for your help

We stayed at Stovall's last trip. It was fine. We're staying at Quality Inn this time just 'cause it's cheaper and closer. Haven't stayed there before but, like you said, we're just looking for a clean place to put our heads down. On the other hand, the walk from Stovall's is kind of nice. It's tree lined, minimal traffic and you get to walk through GCH and Downtown Disney - but it is longer. I'll be able to give a better comparison after we come back, if you can wait about a month. :)

We stayed at Stovall's not too long ago and I was pleased. I would stay there again. The walk is a bit far but it is a pleasant walk. The rooms are updated, linens updated, wireless internet and a nice breakfast.

Ok. We're back from our grand DLR trip. As promised, I'm back with the hotel comparison. And the winner is (drumroll please) .......

Stovall's Inn!

I don't remember exactly, but SI was about $10 more per night on our trip before this. We went with QI&S this time to save money.

QI&S is a little closer to the park, but it felt like the same distance. I think partly because it isn't that much closer but also because when going to Stovall's you get to walk through DTD and GCH. So Stovall's has a significantly nicer walk from start to finish. If you don't want to walk, you can take the bus from Stovall's. No busses to QI&S.

When we stayed at Stovall's, we had a pretty large room with 2-queen sized beds. QI&S had one double sized bed and a twin sized sofa sleeper. The Sofa sleeper was SOOO uncomfortable we took it off the couch and slept with the springy, uncofortable mattress on the floor. Not a good experience. I ended up using pillows and cushions on the floor to sleep on instead.

The room at QI&S seemed clean enough, but the bathtub had some damage to it that made me hesitate using it.

The only thing I didn't like about Stovall's was that the rooms are very dark. Dark furniture, dark walls. QI&S was bright and cheery and had nice landscaping. It also had friendly staff. Still, we won't go back.

And there you have my opinion. :)

Greatly appreciate the comparison! I have cancelled our reservation for QI&S! Still have Stovalls, Hojo and DI&S reserved! Stovall's is our cheapest option and DI&S is our closest, and Hojo is in the middle....I think I might wait for weather reports before I decide which to truly go with.

Hoku, would you mind copying this to the thread I started? http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2796786

On the advice of good friends, we're staying at Stovall's in October. From their mouths we've been told the walk is nice, the free breakfasts are very good, you can see the fireworks from balconies and Coco's next door will deliver their food to your hotel room door for $3.00. Hoping the walk is just as nice as I've heard! :)

It's a pleasant walk, up the street (which has a sidewalk & trees, more like walking through a park than walking on a street) & through the GC lobby. It can seem pretty long after walking around all day, though. But you can catch the ART bus if you don't want to do the walk at night; it drops off right in front of the hotel.

We just returned from Stovall's and the walk was great. It is beautiful, tree lined and quiet. Also it is well lit. We liked Stovall's but even if we didn't I may stay there again just for the walk. We stayed at Hojo's last time and the walk felt a lot shorter from Stovall's even though I know it is not shorter on a map. Also just a tip: My kids loved the pizza from Marri's and we were able to feed 5 boys and 3 girls for under $40. They deliver to the room.

Thanks for posting this! Makes me feel better about the reservation I cancelled at the Quality.

We stayed at Stovall's Inn last week for 2 nights, then had 1 night in the Disneyland Hotels.

Stovall's was perfectly fine (and Im a bit of a hotel snob truthfully). It was very dark, we needed the lights on during the day but our window was pretty much blocked by the wall for the stairwell - so I assumed that was it?!

Had 2 doubles beds but it wasnt that comfy - to be fair we didnt try the other one though. So squidgy, we were rolling in to meet in the middle!
Fridge was handy and the shower was very good.

The walk was fine, as per previous posters - tree lined and very quiet. Nicer on the way home as all the trees are lit by fairy lights. That said, we were 2 adults - Im not sure how kids would feel about a 10/15 min walk at the end of a long day.

Also, and this might sound like a bit of paranoia, but Im pretty sure the maid went through our stuff on the 1st night. The hand luggage we had stowed in the wardrobe out of the way (because it was padlocked with documents as there was no safe) had been moved. And my hair straighteners had been taken out and the cable undone.
Nothing was missing but it just felt a bit weird!!

We've only stayed at Quality Inn and Suites, but it was just fine for us because we're two broke college kids. It might be a little small for a whole family, but you definitely can't beat the price. We just went about a week ago and no sign of bedbugs. Mattresses looked pretty darn new as well. My only problem was that the minifridge was cold enough to freeze the food on the top shelf (outside of the little freezer portion) but that's really nothing. Before, they used to limit you to one pastry from the breakfast area (or so I heard because I've never seen the sign), but I don't think the sign's there anymore. It's a really basic breakfast, but we take enough for snacks in the park.
