Stovalls or Carousel?

We are staying at Marriott for a conference and then want to move to something else a little closer and more affordable. Options available are Stovalls and Carousel....which would you pick? We've always had a decent stay at Carousel but it sounds like they've gone downhill. Never been to Stovalls but looks nice for the price. Bed comfort and cleanliness are #1. Does Stovalls feel incredibly long for walking back and forth? Farthest we've been from the park in that area is hojo. Thanks!

I've stayed at both and would choose Carousel over Stovall's based solely on proximity to the park. I've only recently stayed at Carousel so I can't comment on if it has gone downhill recently. It was clean and comfortable and that's all we need in a hotel room. The half hour or more walk to Stovall's was difficult for us due to tired feet and backs after 3 or 4 long days at the park.

Hojo's is a little over a .5 mi to the Esplanade circle. Stovall's is .84 (going the long way, it is .45 from the GCH entrance to DCA to Stovalls).

Personally, the beds in Stovall's were great for me. I was 3 months out of having 16 compression fractures in my spine and the beds felt great to my back. It was very clean and the staff were wonderful.

Thanks for posting the distances. People can comment on how long it takes them to walk, but everyone walks at a different pace. For example, for me to walk the "long way" at .84 miles, it would take me about 15 minutes.

I just want to add, that what may seem or not seem like a long distance really depends on your tolerance. I've started to walk a mile a day to 1) tone my legs, 2) get prepared for the walk from Stovall's to Disneyland (I understand I'll be walking far more while I'm at the parks), 3) to break in my sneakers, and 4) to decide which sneakers are the most comfortable.

I decided on the money I was saving by staying at Stovall's I could take a cab back to the hotel every night and it would still be cheaper than if I stayed across the street.

Alright. I guess don't listen to me. This is the second thread I posted in commenting that it takes me half an hour to walk back "the long way" from DL gate to Stovall's, and the second time I've been corrected.

Yes people's exercise and pain tolerances are different. So you should take that into account. And yes people walk at different paces and it also depends on how they feel that day how tired they are etc. So I agree that a distance measurement is more accurate than a time measurement.

I am one who is willing to pay a little more for convenience, and to me 5 minutes is very convenient and worthy my money.

I agree - I LOVE the convenience of the Carousel and proximity usually wins out for us if rates are somewhat comparable, so long as the place is in good shape with comfy beds. :-) I'm glad to hear you had a good stay there recently after some of the negative reviews I've read.

We've never stayed at Stovall's, but we did stay at Carousel Inn last October and will never stay there again. We booked through Expedia and we were given a handicapped room. The room was teeny-tiny but the bathroom was decent size. We asked to be moved to a non-handicapped room and they told us that they were sold out and that any changes to our room had to be made through Expedia anyway, I think that really were sold out because there were two couples that were checking in after us and they were sending them to another hotel much farther away (they were NOT happy). This is another reason that we won't stay here again;they must overbook and you arrive thinking that you will be able to walk across the street to Disney but you could end up having to take the shuttle from wherever they send you.
We contacted Expedia and they weren't any help either. They said that this was the room type that we had reserved even though it didn't mention anywhere on our reservation that it was a handicapped room. Expedia is another company we'll never use again, once they have your money, you have no control over the situation.
