Does anyone have a preference between these two places for a character breakfast? Already have Goofy's Kitchen booked but would like to do I more character breakfast.

It depends a little on whether your interested in seeing less familiar characters or not. Storytellers features (usually) Meeko, Koda, Kenai, and Chip and Dale. Surf's Up features (usually) Mickey, Pluto, Daisy, and Stitch (and sometimes Minnie).

Both have custom omelettes, but I think surfs up has a few extra options like pizzas and smoothies that I don't remember seeing at storytellers. Storytellers is fancier furniture and woody setting though. storytellers does not have photopass+ character photos, surfs up does with mickey. (free print with photopass plus, otherwise $30)

as far as I remember, surfs up had mickey waffles, pancakes, banana french toast, scrambled eggs, some type of mexican tortilla chip w/cheese and veg, bacon, sausage, pizza, various minimuffins, cinn bun, cereal, oatmeal, various fruit. I think storytellers had waffles, muffins, fruit, not sure about the rest. For some reason I remember surfs up better.

I'd do Surfs Up.
The food is essentially the same but I had a better "food" experience at Storytellers.....but not by much. The character interaction at Surfs Up was waaaay better for us. They do a surf dance thing with the characters. My daughter had much more fun at Surfs Up, justified the smaller difference in food quality. I've done Surfs up three times, strorytellers once.

We have done both and would say do Surf's Up. Food wise I feel they were basically the same. But character wise Surf's Up has way better interaction and has Stitch (our fav). Plus, we found the service at Storytellers not up to the usually Disney standards. CMs working the hostess stand were rude, characters would skip our table and our waiter was very inconsistent. Only saving grace was the CM working the omelette station. Very friendly and made great omelettes that he would deliver to the table.

Having done both it really is a question of what characters you are most interested in seeing. In terms of food quality both were IMO very good but if i had to choose one i would go with Storytellers buffet.

We did Surf's Up in May and I wasn't really impressed with the food this time like I had been in 2011 or 2012. Food was very underseasoned (and I almost never salt things, so for me to say this, it was pretty obvious). The character interaction was great though.

We went to Surf's Up in November last year. I thought the food was pretty good! We had a lot of fun with all the characters and the little dance party they have. I've never been to Storyteller's so I can't help you there. We'd definetley go to Surf's Up again though.
