Story Book Princess Lunch

My DD (5 yrs) and I will be attending the Story Book Princess lunch at Askerhaus. I know many of the girls will be wearing princess attire but can anyone give me odds? My daughter is not terribly sensitive to fitting in with crowds but if most (say 80% or more) of the girls are wearing costumes she may feel out of place.

So if you've been there...how 'bout some numbers.

We went last summer (on the 4th of July). I'm not good at numbers but I would say that may 60% of the girls had princess dresses on. Mine wear them for the meals, but since its July heat they wear short outfits underneath and change once the meal is over.

We had breakfast in the Castle and I would say only about 40% of the girls were in princess dresses. We were there on October 30th so it wasn't really hot. My granddaughter wore shorts and a princess t-shirt and did not look out of place.

Thanks for the input. My daughter should be happy without a dress then. The last princess birthday party she went to she dressed nicely but not in costume and proclaimed "real princesses" dress this way.

This past January I gave my 8 y/o GD a trip to WDW, as a Christmas present (doing the same thing this year). I had booked CRT for her. She is being raised by her dad and is a total tomboy, but I was concerned about her feeling out of place eating in the castle with the Princesses in jeans/shorts. Anyway I took her to the Disney Store around Halloween and while there I started looking at some of the Princess dresses. She came over, gave me a horrified look, and said "I hope you're kidding, and not thinking about buying me one of those prissy dresses". I told her that if she ever ate with Cinderella in the castle she'd probably wear one. She laughed, put both hands on her hips, and said "Wanna make a bet, I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those getups". Anyway I went back later and just bought her a Princess t-shirt, which she wore with shorts to CRT. We saw only a few (maybe 20%-25%) of the girls in Princess dresses when we went to CRT. I asked my GD if she was sorry I hadn't bought her the Princess dress. She glanced around and promptly reminded me that the girls in Princess dresses were definitely in the minority and also looked very uncomfortable and she was perfectly fine. I'm taking her to PSB (dinner) Jan 2nd and CRT (lunch) Jan 7th and have no concern about her fitting in, in her jeans/shorts.

If she already owns a princess costume, why not bring it with you, and get there awhile before your ressie's, and watch as the kids go in....then pose the question of whether she wants to put it on or not before you go inside!

We were there the last week in October and I worried if I should buy princess dresses for my girls, too. I decided to buy them, thinking they would be thrilled, which they weren't exactly. They were itchy and the girls didn't really want to wear them. I put the dresses on over their clothes outside the castle, took a few pictures, and then my youngest wanted hers off. We went inside and 5 minutes later my oldest wanted hers off.

If I had it to do over again I would just buy them something cute to wear and be done with it. It was a waste of money for me.

By the way, we got some really great pictures of the girls with the princesses at Akershus. Definitely worth it, even though the girls barely ate a thing there.
