Stormalong Bay Pool Closed For Rehab

A couple of years ago they were working on the slide while we were there. They had shuttles to take you to BW to use the pool. And this was just the slide being closed. This made it much easier and quicker to get there. Maybe they will do that again seeing as how this is much more extensive?

I know I would be bummed. My kids spend all their pool time in that area. One on the slide and one in the whirlpool. But looking at it from a positive point of view we have never stayed at BWV and it could be fun to check it out and see the scary clown slide

I am hoping somehow, someway that Disney can mitigate the amount of people that are being impacted.

For example, if you know you have a week of maintenance on just the slide alone, I am hoping they can start working on just that portion of the repair first when the occupancy is near 100% for the Easter Holiday. Then 1wk later, they can work on draining the monster section of the pool that makes up more than 2/3's of the total SAB pool.

We will be at the BCV the week beginning with April 8. Is pool hopping to other resorts allowed, or is that week one of the blackout times? Grandkids will be disappointed by this, but I am mostly concerned about overcrowding at the other pool options. We were at BCV a few years ago during a SAB waterslide rehab, but crowds were not an issue at the other pools because it wasn't a peak week. Was wondering about going to OKW or SS pools. Just curious, if the filtration system is "broken", why would the pool be open now? If it is still functional, why can't the repairs be done during a less crowded time?

When they schedule rehabs of SAB it's done in 3 sections. I've been there when this section was closed. Missing out on the slide is a bummer, but the rest of the pool area is totally adequate. You also have the quiet pools and the DVC pool. I think the slide at BWV is better anyway (especially if you're a fan of "It"). It's such a large complex that you won't miss that much. And it doesn't impact the section with rentals, pool games, or hurricane hannah's.

It must need an urgent fix or they wouldn't close it during easter week. I know it stinks, but it won't be as bad as it sounds. Can you pool hop anywhere else? Usually you can, but sometimes during easter/spring break it's restricted.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but we've been there twice when someone had to go to the hospital, and we were there when my father died--that's devastating. Closing the pool is just annoying. This reminds me of the folks on the DCL board who were devastated that they stopped serving Mickey ice cream bars. Maybe I'm just too mellow.

See, now that's something I would argue for if you want compensation. Ask for pool hopping priviledges to the other DVC resorts even though it's during the blackout period. That seems fair to me. It doesn't cost them anything, and you'd have a chance to try other resorts. Call member services and the BC front desk and see what they'll do for you.

I agree "devastated" is a bit dramatic for a pool slide closing.
Depending on how old the kids are they may not even notice unless the grown ups keep making a issue of it.

I would not expect to be "compensated".Why is it that people expect something for every minor issue that arises?

I have to believe that what ever the issue is it must be important for them to do it now.

I am sure that they will have the CMs entertaining the kids in an adjacent area.They give out lots of cheepo toys from oriental trading.The kids love it.

I cant believe people actually have to be bussed over to the boardwalk or the Yacht Club. talk about lazy, Its what, a whole 3-5 minute walk.

I just received a reminder letter from Disney that the Stormalong slide and pool will be closed April 9th through the 30th. A shuttle bus will be available to take Yacht Club, Beach Club, and BCV guests to the Luna Pool at the BoardWalk and they invite guests to use the leisure pools.

I hate Disney's policy of waiting to make announcements until it's too late for guests to change their vacation plans during rehabs and closures.

all the cancer, costs and planning aside....it is just a slide.
Its really not the end of the world. does anyone not have any creative cells left in their brains to conjur up something else that they could do.
Its a piece of plastic, thats in the air, that you push down for a whole 10 seconds, if that. Really, its just a slide.
When we go if there is something rehabbing we just think of something else to do. is that so hard? the kids throw a fit for 5 minutes, we distract them with something better to do and whala all is well.
I cant believe too that cancer would even be brought into this conversation.
Is a pool slide really as important as battling a disease that kills? Using cancer and a pool being closed in the same sentence is not warranted. A pool is NOT as important or even a fraction as emotional as cancer is. SHame on you for drawing the cancer card on sometthing like this. And ya i can say something about cancer cause I have 6 DIRECT family members who have either died of cancer or are in remission and in my wildest dreams I would never use cancer as a pawn towards something.

Stephen, our family too has battled cancer and dealt with a portion of SAB being closed. In fact cancer is what pushed our family over the fence and buyin into DVC.

The fact is hard earned, dream vacations do not come every other week. They take a year or more of planning and they are often targeted at a very specific location, for very specific reasons and now that main reason is being taken away 1 wk from our departure. I am not saying that we can not have a good time, but I do expect to be heavily compensated for this major inconvenience and this will be a devastating revelation for our children.

I will be the first to complain about something none for no good reason, but repairs are necessary for safety and do maintain the standard everyone expects from Disney.

1) Agreed.
2) Repairs are a necessary occurrence.
3) Call it "a speed bump on the road of life".
4) Just roll with the punches and get through it.
5) I have yet to see a repair thaty ruined a vacation.

NOTE: We stayed Main Building, King Suite at GF during the period
the monorail was down DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS. No big
deal, we just worked around it. Some complained to no end, and
others just shrugged their shoulders and went on with their vacation.

Thanks for the blockout dates Denlo. If the pool needs repair now, why is it now open? If it is functional now, why not wait to repair during nonblockout dates? We have been DVC BCV owners for many years and SAB being closed is not a big deal to us, but I certainly understand why it might be to others. I can't believe that outside contractors can dictate to DISNEY when repairs must be done.

My wife and I will also be there during the rehab but we usually only use the lazy river. Just hope it doesn't become overwhelmed by floats (man, I hate those floats...makes it so difficult to navigate around the circle).

While the term rehab is being used it seems the correct term might be repair since the regular rehab was done in January when it sounds like the filtration problem was found. With the sand bottom it must be a very special type of equipment that is needed to do it and it may also require specialized people to install or repair it. In that case Disney is possibly hostage to when the parts and people are available. It is a disappointment of course just as it would be if the filtering equipment completely failed on April 7 and there was no notice that the pool would be shut down. They probably don't want to take a chance of waiting to do the repairs since it might be even worse if they let it go longer before repair. I hope that everyone impacted will still have a wonderful vacation and may find some pixie dust along the way.

Got the letter on Thursday for a trip I am taking in 2 weeks. I Called MS and asked what parts of the pool would be closed and was given the same response as was explained here by Sammie regrading sections of the pool. I checked for available elsewhere and changed my reservation. I was happy to be able to do that. That is the great thing about DVC. I was also happy that I was informed of the pool closing so I could make a change if I wanted to. I have been to other DVC resorts to arrive and find main pools closed for rehab-without prior notification.
I was not devastated by the information of the pool rehab, disappointed. My children were looking forward to staying at BCV as we stayed there once when they were young and they barely remember it. They were disappointed but not devastated and were fine with the change we made to another DVC resort. Honestly, not a big deal. I think if I responded as if I was angry about it-my children may have had a different reaction. It comes from the top down.
to the poster who is worried about your children being so upset-try to put a positive spin on the whole thing-they will be in Disney-on vacation-there are other pools and plenty to do. Play it down so they won't be upset.

I wanted to follow up on this thread to say that YES, everything I was stating was in full effect in terms of the degree for how much Stormalong Bay rehab impacted the Beach Club experience. I was very sad to see our beautiful vacation home in such a massive state of repair.

That being said and having stayed there many times in the best, we know how beautiful it can be and will be in the near future. I am sure the work being done was very necessary. Also, I am not going to go into details, but Disney went over the top in terms of compensation for our troubles. Hats off to them for making another memorable family vacation!
