Storm Watch: Hurricane Sandy

Just checking in...

C'mon, MD, DE, NJ, NYC, CT, RI and MA.....let us know how you are doing!

RI is hanging in there right now, raining fairly hard and instead of gusts it seems like the wind is blowing more steadily at 30-40. For us, the issue is going to be the beaches around 8PM when the tide is at a Full Moon high. Hope everyone in the NJ/NYC areas make out alright.

Keeping everyone in our good thoughts.

Let's hope no one gets hurt in NYC. That crane sounds horrifying.

Stay in touch. We're worried about y'all.

Watching the news here is making me crazy.

NY and the southern NJ coast are where I grew up.

So the funniest thing I've seen in the hurricane coverage... I was watching Channel 5 news and they were in Hoboken. The Channel 7 Eyewitness News van pulled up next to them and the camera man casually panned to the right so you couldn't see the van.

School was just cancelled for my kids tomorrow. My OR cases are also cancelled so I'll be home with them. We still have power - for now, at least. Strong winds and rain here. Our Town has declared a State of Emergency. We have no need to leave the house (except to walk across the street to exchange the neighbor's son for my daughter) so we are perfectly safe right now.
Just spoke to my mom on the North Shore of Long Island. They live not quite one block up from Long Island Sound but at least 30 feet above sea level as it's quite a steep hill. They also have power now but expect to lose power, maybe when high tide hits as there will be flooding along the coast.
Tracey O'Neill posted on Facebook that they lost power about an hour ago.
Prayers for everyone in Sandy's path.

Amanda

Yeah, this crane collapse is a big deal. For those who don't know the geography of Manhattan, this is basically the middle of the island, nowhere near any of the evacuation zones. It's "safe" land.

And if it falls, goodness knows what could happen.

I'm getting ill watching the coverage. Seaside is being destroyed before our eyes. I can't believe it.

ETA: According to news reports, Sandy is about to hit landfall in Atlantic City.

Things have gotten too dangerous for me to stay on this side of the house. Closing it off and going towards the center. Stay safe all.

Hope everyone is hanging in there and is someplace safe.

Can we get everyone to check in again?

We are with y'all in spirit.

Latest steady wind here in Plymouth was 30. Strong, but not bad. We still have power but folks nearby (1-2 miles away) are out.

here in DC it is windy and rainy. There are many trees down but for now we are ok. They have closed the federal governmant for tomorrow and are anticipating about 10 inches of rain before it is all over.

Atlantic City

South Jersey (near Philly). Rain is letting up, but not the wind. Pretty steady around 35mph. Gusts just over 50. It seems we are on the edge of the eye at the moment, so the rain will subside at the shore and on into Philly. But the wind will pick up.
Bridges over the Delaware River restricted to essential personnel only. No trucks, no motorcycles.
Trees in our yard still standing. :cool1: and we still have power! :cool1::cool1:

I will be sleeping in the basement, and we moved a twin mattress from upstairs to the living room for DH. No venturing to the 2nd floor tonight. We are surrounded by trees- all over 30 ft high. We live on the western edge of/in the Pine Barrens.

So far, so good! (It'll be a birthday to remember, that's for sure!!)

Pixie dust for all in Sandy's path. :wizard:

The wind is really hollowing outside now in my Philly row home supposdly the worst of the storm is coming in soon but we are ok and staying inside. I don't think I've ever heard wind like this in my life.

The rain and wind hitting our house has revealed a leak we need to fix on the side of the house when the storm is over. Not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight.

The governor just came on and said the worst 4-6 hours of the storm are about to begin. Oh goody.

A whole lot of wind and way too much rain in Baltimore. I'm just thankful that we still have power or I'ld be spending way too much time in my basement near the sump pump. I'm also thankful that it isn't SNOW! Stay safe everyone!

Still on here... Amazing!
Ours goes out all the time. Every hour we stay on is terrific!

Check in from Vermont - we have spotty power outages (we're still fine, but down the road in Montpelier, some of the streets are without), a few gusts, nothing major, and some rain. My daughter in New London, NH lost power about 2 1/2 hours ago. The footage and photos from New Jersey are frightening! Stay safe everyone!!!!
