Post your tales of storms here.I've only been in a flood 4th of July weekend of '02 and a F1 twister this past spring

When I was about 8, a tornado touched down near my grandmother's house. Since her house had no real 'inside' rooms where we could go hide, we did the next best thing: Shut all the doors to the bedrooms a nd hid out in the hallway. :)

I've been close to lots of twisters since then but never in another one. They don't scare me one bit. :)

You know they say a tornado sounds like a train? Well one night i woke up to the sound of a train. But the train sounded like it was only going 40 miles an hour. I fell back asleep.
Next morning woke up to find that a very small tornado had touched down 1/4 mile away. It just overturned one trailer home.
Can't believe i fell back asleep while wondering if it was a tornado or not.

I remember having to sit in a shelter during the flood with only a copy of LOTR for company(plus a few other things)

Mine are a couple of tornado stories. I'm from Oregon and had never had to deal with that type of severe weather.

We were newly married, living in Madison Wisc and we heard the tornado warning siren during the night. We ignored it, only to find out the following morning that a twister hit a small town south of Madison, demolished the town and killed 8 people. After that we took the warning much more seriously and went to our apartment laundry room, with out cats, neighbors, and any snacks we could quickly assemble.

Our second experience was when we lived in Houston, Texas and I was pregnant with our second child. We heard the siren and headed for the only interior room, a small powder room, with our daughter and our cats. I couldn't find one of our cats, though, and started to look for him thinking that he was probably scared and hiding. Turns out that he was sleeping on a chair in our breakfast nook, which was next to lots of windows, and unaware of the storm. I brought him in the powder room as I felt the house pressurize. A small tornado had touched down a couple of blocks away, ripping up fences and doing roof damage. We had some minor roof damage. Smart, me looking for the cat, don't you think?

We now live in Maryland, where tornadoes are not so common.
