Is there a lazy river at SAB? Are inner-tubes or other floats provided?

It is deep, 8 ft. in places and the current is strong. A DF was surprised that I called it a lazy river, it was not what she had in mind. I don't think she enjoyed it as much as I do! So, it's not like the lazy rivers at BB and TL. They have rental tubes, and there are usually a few stray noodles around.

I agree, I wouldn't do it without a tube or float--and no way would I let smaller kids do it without floats. You can buy a float at a dollar store and use that, and even leave it when you go home, if you want. I forget the rental prices. The current can be strong!

Last year they were not allowing any floats from home - not even clear ones. The only option was to rent floats at SAB.

And I agree - there is nothing lazy about the river!! It is very DEEP and the current is strong - I swam it once and was worn out!

Ah yes, that area is coming back to me now....I walked off the step and was in water over my head!

You would have to be exceptional to be able to swim against that current! Frankly, I love that part of the pool. I don't use a float, but I enjoy swimming/floating in the circle for 30 minutes or more. I don't think I would attempt the slide, but I'm as happy as a clam in the lazy river part of SAB! The DGC however, love the slide...all 3 of them!! I really was very happy we had 5 adults watching the 3 children for their first visit to BCV. The 3 1/2 year old was happy with the little one by the entrance to the pirate ship for about 1/2 hour, but then she got the courage to follow her sibs up, and well...that was that. No more staying with DBabci, that's me!

That "lazy river" is right up the with the BWV "daybed". Completely inaccurate name for this little loop that is very deep and very swift. And you do just suddenly drop off into the deep section if you aren't aware of it. Just one reason I really don't like SAB at all.

This summer when my husband and son are headed to SAB, I'll head out to Dunes Cove Pool instead.

In July 2007, we spent about 10 days at BCV & we were allowed to use our own tubes from Target as much as we liked.

In July 2008, we went back for another 10 days & the guards were not letting anyone use their own tubes.

We purchased some noodles from the Poolside shop & the kids had fun with those.

Keep in mind that the lazy river is a pretty short circle off to one side of the main pool...it's not like a water park lazy river that runs the length of SAB.

Some good pictures are on Tagrel's site...click here for his great Photo Tour of SAB

About 9 or 10 slides into the slideshow are some good pictures of the lazy river.

Is there any sort of map or directory of the pool area once you get there? We're staying at BCV for the first time in April. DD9 & DS7 can swim, but they're still sort of new at it. We have a 2 yr old as well. We'll have an extra adult or two most of the time (gotta love Grandparents  ), so we'll be right with the kids when they swim, but I'd like to know where the deep and/or more challenging areas are.

There may be one at the pool. The little kids area is towards the Yacht Club side. The "lazy river" is in the center. The big slide, sinking sands are closer to the Beach Club side.
