We're planning on just doing carry-on luggage for our trip in a couple weeks, since Alaska charges $25 each way for checked baggage. So, we will need to pick up a razor for DH once we arrive, since we can't bring one in our carry on. I also want to buy a little pair of scissors for opening up toy packages and cutting off tags for the toys that the kids will buy during our trip. Will HOJO have these in their little shop? Will the prices be reasonable? We're making a grocery stop at Trader Joe's near the airport, but I don't think they carry razors.

Normal shavers are totally fine in carryons. You can't take straight razors, but I doubt there are many people who use those at home anymore.

You can pack a disposable razor in your carry-on. I always pack one and have never had a problem. It is even listed as okay on the TSA site. I believe you can also pack scissors of a certain length. You can double check this on TSA site. As for Hojo store, not sure if they sell scissors, but their prices in general are rather high. I bought 24-count Advil for about $9 and large (I think they were 1 quart) bottles of water for $4.25 each.

Just checked and site states that scissors with blades shorter than 4-inches can be carried on plane.

Usually hotels/motels often provide free razors or toothbrushes etc for guests that forget their own at home. You just need to call the front desk.

That said, you can definitely carry on a razor and a small set of scissors.

Thanks for the tips! Several years ago (before 2001 I think) I had an agent take away my nail clippers, and the blades were shorter than 4 inches. I think they also took my tweezers that time too! So now I always just put that stuff in my checked baggage, so I don't even have to worry about the carry on rules.

We don't find the HoJo Market to be very expensive for items, and the best part is, so far, absolutely everything we have ever needed has been found there when we were there. Hydrogen peroxide, blister bandaids, moleskin, scissors, insoles for sore feet, shampoo, ALL OTC medication we have ever needed, such as tylenol, dramamine, motrin, eno, and then there is the HUGE selection of snacks, drinks, ice cream, milk, cheese, sausage, etc. Muffins, cereal, chips, candy bars, and more. I love that store! I have never had them say, "Oh sorry, we don't carry that." Best stocked store I've ever seen, and the customer service by the employees is exceptionally friendly.

Hi Rubygoose! If you did not want to worry about carrying a razor or scissors in your carry on, we do have these items at our hotel. We have complementary razors and shaving cream you need it, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste too. And If you need scissors, we are more than happy to let you borrow one of ours.

Hope this helps. See you soon!

HoJo got there before I did, but yeah their little store is awesome. We missed it over the weekend staying at the Grand Californian, and that says a lot.

Awesome! Thanks Kriss! We'll try bringing some cheap, disposable razors on the plane, and if they take them away, then we'll ask for the complementary one. See you on Thursday!
