Onto my next question-

in planning the route, we are thinking of stopping 2 nights in the way there, around Knoxville and then again around Macon. And seeing how that goes and if we are comfortable with 1 stop on the way home. My husband was looking for state parks close to 75, and those were the areas he came up with. (We are in NW Ohio.) He is thinking 6 hours of driving with the camper is going to be enough for him. 🤷🏼‍♀️ This is our first long trip with it.

(we have a 27’ wildwood TT and an F150 as our set up.) 3 kids ages 14,11,8 when we go. They do well with travel though it’s been 3 years or so since they last drove to Florida, as we’ve flown the last few years.

thoughts??

Can't help you on the first stop, but we stay at Eagles Roost in Valdosta, GA the last night. Not a State park but a nice place. Only leaves us 200 miles from Disney. We try to travel somewhere around 450 miles a day, how long it takes depends on stops, etc. We are roughly 1500 miles from Disney, southeast Nebraska, we usually run a 3 1/2 day trip down. Last trip down, we traveled with DS and family, averaged around 670 miles a day, 2 1/2 days down, to many miles and to long a days for us older people, LOL. Won't do that again. Whatever you decide, Happy Traveling!!

Yes we are 1050 miles so you are further than we are!!! Id like to just make 1 stop but I’m not the one driving 🤣

Clinton/Knoxville North KOA. North of Knoxville. Been there a few overnights, nice place. Gas station and Mexican restaurant within walking distance. Leaves you 335 miles to:
Fair Harbor RV park, Perry, GA. Also a nice place. Our go to stop north- or southbound on I-75. South of Atlanta, south of Macon but north of Valdosta. Leaves you another 335 miles to FW.
Enjoy the trip.

I don't have any recommendations for a state park, but I have stayed at a couple of places right on the highway that are convenient overnights.

Eagles Roost (mentioned above) is nice, but a couple of hours farther south than you wanted. It is right on the Fl/Ga line.

It has been quite a while (15 years?), but I have stopped at:
Twin Oaks- It is a little south of Macon
Forsyth KOA- Forsyth is just north of Macon

Both were nice and easy access to the highway. Their websites still look nice.

I am 1003 miles from the Fort (StL area). When DS was little, we broke the trip up into halves. Now that he is grown (22), we make much longer runs. I used to race sports cars and have towed big trailers all over the country, so 1000 miles in a day is long, but not terrible. If this is your first long trip, you have a great plan for the number of stops.

Just out of college, I got a job (Civil Servant) with the Air Force at Offutt. I drove from Jacksonville to Omaha in 2 1/2 days by my self. I had to do that type of mileage per day due to budget considerations and looking for an apartment close to the base ASAP.

When I got to Omaha, I literally drove into a snow storm. Mind you I had never driven in snow.

Doing the mileage between Jacksonville and Omaha, I vowed never to do that type of distance in 2 1/2 days.

I'll bet that was fun, LOL. And with the distance in 2 1/2 days, we were both pulling 35' campers.

If you can make it past Macon to Valdosta you will be better off & happier. Macon is a dump...we had the scariest hotel experience there a few years ago driving at one of their top rated hotels. We now make the extra push to Valdosta no matter what.

Im not from your area so no advice on where to stop. Just realize that longer trips require more gas stops, and bathroom breaks. That coupled with the towing make it take longer to get there. Small gas tanks and 12 mpg towing dosen't get you far. Im only saying this because you said its the first long trip! I went with the koas on the freeway from NJ. Pull through sites were the norm for one nighters. It might be worth the extra $$$ on the road. Oh , and freeze some food to microwave, in case of traffic etc. Easy to nuke a lasagna if your short on time to cook!
