Stopping bus service?

We're in the world right now and got a nasty t-storm. Made it back to the AS resort and overheard a CM saying they were going to shut down the buses. Why would they do that? They don't close the parks, right? A bus would be a safer place to be???!!!

Confused, but heading out again shortly regardless. I guess we'll just see.....

Somehow I doubt that would happen. We typically run even in the worst of storms. (And the one we just had was bad, but not unusual) However, buses might run slower, since they'll need to adjust thier speed accordingly to whatever is safe.

Tyler, would the fact that we were under a Tornado warning make a difference. If that was what the OP heard, could it have been because a Tornado Warning was put into effect in the NW corner of Osceola County and the SW Corner of Orange county. (was in effect from abuot 5:30pm to 6:15pm). According to the news a funnel was spotted but they don't think it touched down. I could see Disney not wanting anyone to go anywhere if that was the case. Just wondering.

Strange thing...as I was watching the news, it took me a minute to realize that the area they were talking about is where I live!!! I'm going NW corner of Osceola...hmmm, interesting...hey that's were I live! Took a minute for it to compute in my brain. :o

If safety is an issue, then of course they'll do something about it. But in my 3 years with Disney Transport, I've never seen the buses stop service completely.

I remember 2.5 years ago, when I was in Monorails, there was such a huge storm we had to shut down Monorails for about 2 hours. About 750 people were camping out in the Monorail station waiting for service to return. Strangely enough though, both buses and ferries were still running, but people just didnt want to get wet. *shrug*

That's what I was thinking, that the Tornado Warning cause them to think about shutting down service temporarily where the funnel cloud was thought to be sighted. The OP might have overhead a snippet of the safety plan...one that might not even had to be put into action since the warning didn't come to anything.

And even then, if a funnel was spotted down by AS, doesn't mean they need to stop the busses in other areas of the world since WDW encompasses so much territory.

Wow... I stand corrected. I just heard from one of my friends that they did shut down buses for 25 minutes due to the potential of that funnel cloud.

Thanks, Tyler, for the definitive answer! We did go back out after a couple of hours and the buses were running OK so I wondered if they had actually done that or not. Saw a heckava lot of lightening on the long trip to DTD.
