Yesterday my DW and I stopped by VB for lunch. We are staying with my MIL in Fort Pierce but needed some magic alone time. We were very impressed with the incredible job done after the storms. Lots of changes but the beach is very wide now. The campfire circle has been moved to the north of the cottages near the public beach. The ocean views are better than ever. People that used to complain about the beach should be very happy now. The staff should be commended for they have taken lemons and made lemonaid. Most visible change will be the walkway to the beach that is now shortened and redirected. Our lunch at Shutters was excellent and we will be back in August for our DS 21st birthday. :smooth: :cool1:

PS Happy New Year to all :wizard: :cheer2: :jumping1: :thewave:

I have to wait until May to get there, thanks for the report!

I can second Snowgod's opinion of the VB resort. My DW and I spent three nights in an Inn room recently (12/11-14) and found it to be in excellent condition. We got the ocean view that we requested and found the staff to be very attentive as usual. We even found a towel "alligator" in our room on the returning to the room our first night! :) Although we are DVC members we paid cash for these nights because of the very good rate we got using the DVC BankOne card.

The foliage and dunes between the hotel and ocean are greatly reduced as Snowgod noted. You can actually see the ocean from the ground floor of the resort. The resort is in outstanding condition, especially when compared to the properties north of the resort. Almost all of the stairs accessing the beach except for VB are destroyed.

We did not dine at the resort restaurants on this trip, but did have a very nice dinner at Captain Hiram's Sandbar (the main dining room was not yet reopened). They have added a few extra tables and some gas heaters since this area is outside.

We stopped by the Green Cabin Room each night for a drink or dessert and continue to enjoy it very much. They had entertainment each night. The only disappointment was that it was too cool to sit at the outside tables. :(

We also stopped bt the Ocean Grill briefly to see if it was open and it is! Unfortunately, we did not have the time to dine there since we were visiting friends and relatives south of VB.

Is the walkway all stairs or will I be able to get DS's wheelchair down to the beach? (crosses fingers for beach access)
We're the starting on the 13th, and will miss the old ramp.

Paul, as I was reading your comments I was thinking, "Wonder if he would know if the Ocean Grill has reopened?" Thanks for reading my mind! LOL!

Snowgod thanks as well for the recent update on the resort.

I wonder if they have plans to try to replenish the dunes and/or sea oats... While they obviously couldn't do much against those hurricanes, they serve as a protective barrier against erosion.

We spent one night at Vero before our Dec 18th cruise. The resort is beautiful. We've owned here since 2002 but this is our first stay (we've sent the in-laws a few times). We had an oceanview inn room which was lovely and had a wonderful dinner at Shutters.

We definately want to go back again sometime when we can spend more than just a night.
