Stop Trick or treating--what age?

We usually have about 180 little kids coming to our house for halloween. If the teens were all coming as well, it would just be too much.

Our normal is over 200 and I think that with it being on the wekeend this year we may get double that! We have groups of kids 10-15 big coming all day long!

i'm 16 and i still go trick-or-treating!!! Since i entered high school, every year a few of my friends come over and we do some kind of costume (even if it's just cat ears and face paint or something of the sort), hand out candy till about 8, and then go trick-or-treating. By then most of the little kids are done and have gotten their candy so we don't feel guilty going! Plus we only have to go to 1 or 2 streets to fill up our bags; since everyone's trying to get rid of their candy, they give it all away to us! :teeth:

See for me this was always a pet peeve. Teenagers coming late while I am trying to get my younge ones changed and in bed. IMO after 8 oclock is too late.

try turning your porch (or front) light off. we knew in our neighborhood that if the light was off, it was too late to go to that house. :)

Yeah, that was the sign. If the light was off, you didn't go to that house.

Wish it was that easy. My front window faced the front and even with the "porch" light off people knew we were home and knocked anyway.

Anyway it doesn't matter anymore, there are no trick or treaters in our new area.

I shut my light off at 8:00 because by then I know the little ones are all done trick or treating and I generally don't want to deal with the teen agers who are out at that point. So, I guess I am wiht the stopping at age 13 or 14 crowd. I know I t or t'd into jr high, but not into high school.

The last year that I kept the light on until later, I had this group of 4 or 5 older teens come to the door. Rang the doorbell, I answered. No costumes they spoke not a word. So I said, "Hi, what can I do for you?" One kid says, "We're trick or treating." I replied, "Oh, what are you dressed as? Surly teenagers?" One laughed, one glared at me and the other ones just looked confused! I did give them candy, but that was the last crowd for me.

How many of you have to remind the kids to say "thank you"?

If they don't say it and a parent doesn't remind them, I remind them. ::yes::

T&B

When older kids show up w/o a costume I do give them a piece of candy, but I usually give the younger kids or the older ones in good costumes 2 pieces of candy. If an especially dressed up child shows up, especially if my DH is handing out candy they might get several pieces.

We have about 60 children (birth to age 18) in our very small neighborhood (maybe 35 homes), not to mention the connecting neighborhoods and other people who drive over here (one of our neighbors does a haunted garage so a lot of extra people come see that). I'll have to get my husband to tally the numbers this year and figure out how many kids come to the house.
