And just about everything else around here, 'cause it's snowing.

This is one transplanted Yankee who gets deeply annoyed that all the schools, daycares, malls, etc. close at the first sign of snow. I haven't called yet, but I can pretty much guarantee that I'll have to take a vacation day tomorrow because daycare will be closed.

Oh well, maybe I can finally get around to cleaning my oven

LOL. I still remember going through GA when it was a just flurries. You would have thought it was a blizzard.
I still laugh at folks in FL who put on parkas and mittens at 50 degrees. I dont even stop wearing shorts until it dips to the forties.

If it makes you feel better we are supposed to get about a foot of snow Tuesday.

The chiropractor's office where I work is closed, my university is closed...I'm from the mountains of NC, I'm so used to this (not as much as you northeners!) so I'm annoyed that everything's closed and I have to sit around and do nothing...stupid!

I lived in NC 8 years ago after being a transplant from VT and the Midwest. I was horrified that they closed schools for a flurry of snow. After NC I moved back to VT and began to realize that it is a necessity to do that, no matter how absurd it seemed. School bus drivers are not trained to drive in those kind of conditions. Neither is the average driver. City and town maintenance departments are not equipped to deal with snow and ice. Just look at our town budget for salt and sand and overtime for plow drivers and you will know what I mean. I guess the luxury of the relatively mild winters comes with the absurdity of staying home when there is a dusting of snow.

PS we are facing arctic temperatures today and up to a foot of snow tomorrow. I can hardly wait!
