Hi all, hopefully someone can help. We are going to WDW in January. DD will be 9 months and DS will be 3, but big, 44" and 48#. I don't want to rent a stoller (too much $) so I'd like to buy one ahead. I cannot find one to hold DS's size...too tall and heavy.

Does anyone know of, or used a stroller for older/bigger kids?
Thanks!!

I had the same problem, when we were planning our trip to Disney. My DD was only 35 lbs at that time but had outgrown the umbrella stroller. So during my research I found that Maclaren strollers hold kids up to 55 lbs (she's now almost 48 inches and 50# and still uses it. So we will bring it with us this year. She may not use it often but it will be nice to have at the end of a long day. Unfortunatly they aren't cheap. We got the Triumph Model.

Are they sturdy??...better not be el-cheapo for that much $$. After going to WDW for 2 years, it'd pay for itself in the long run.

Look for the Baby Trend Sit and Stand. I know my 3 year old won't even sit for a second in a regular stroller, but loves to ride/sit on the back of the Sit and Stand while her little bro rides in front. Folds up easy, very sturdy. Good stuff.

We bought a Maclaren especially for our WDW trip earlier this month. They are the best strollers ever for bigger kids. Go over to the Family boards for more info about them--you'll get lots of responses, and you can read older threads there as well.

VERY sturdy...

I own two Maclarens. One is 6 years old and still drives just as nice as my 2 year old one. They are worth every red cent IMHO. We take them both to WDW for my two DD's and they're great! Good luck with your decision!!

Can anybody tell me about how wide the seats are on these Maclaren strollers? I'm having the same type problem as the OP because my son is about 42" and 46#.

I really don't want to spend that kind of money on a stroller because right now our only use for it is our one week in WDW - is there any other kind of stroller someone's used for a bigger child? I have a jogging stroller but have read that I would regret bringing that one.

I have the Strolee STS-1 and my 4yo son still fits nicely in it. We love bringing it to WDW because it's lightweight and folds up quick. It's an umbrella stroller, but it partially reclines (great for naps) and has a canopy. It's about $39. It says up to 45 lbs, but can probably go a little more than that. My son is 4yo, about 43" and 40lbs and is very comfortable in it.

I would suggest to just go ahead and rent at the parks. It's not that much money and you don't have to worry about packing it back and forth on buses, etc. I you go from park to park, you keep your reciept and get one at the other park the same day.

Works real well for us (DS was 3 last year).

But they can't really nap in the ones at the park, can they? Not that I plan on a little cat nap in the park to be our only nap, but if it happens I want him to be a little bit comfortable.

The ones in the park are hard plastic. I think to take a nap, you'd have to have a beach towel or something soft with you to put under his/her head.

My daughter was 5 in May when we went to disney. We rented a double stroller every day and it was well worth it! No whining etc... We were also able to put any bags in stroller with her and there was room enough for her to bring a "baby". There is a small discount if you rent all yur days at one time. The reciept is good at any park. I was not told of the discount at MK but the stroller CM at AK told me about it and I saved about 12.00 over 3 days. By the way, my daughter is about 45 lbs and very tall for a 5 year old. We do not worry about napping. She is not a napper. princess:

The Chicco C5 works really well for bigger kids too. This is what my 45" and 53 lb 4 year old rides in. It was $89.99 at Babies R Us. My older son used a Maclaren Volo in the parks and it is a fantastic stroller! No recline though. My son sleeps comfortably in it anyway b/c of the way it sort of cradles him. I went to the store to buy a 2nd volo for one of our trips but all they had was hot pink and DH had a fit over the idea of his son riding in a hot pink stroller so I ended up with the C5. I've been really happy with both. WDW is the only place my sons "stroll" now either.

Happy Maclaren Volo user here! We bought ours specifically for our Feb 06 WDW trip and have no regrets. We got a floor model for about $80. It's worth every penny. Our DD was 3.5 at the time and about 37 pounds. We still use it if we're going to be walking. Very well made, and great for those parents who are taller, because the handles are MUCH higher than the cheap ones. The Volo material is mesh and dries out very fast in the typical FL rain shower! It doesn't recline, BUT the kids sit back pretty far in the seat and so it's quite comfy and our DD took many a catnap in her stroller.

I know some people swear by the rentals and they do have certain advantages. However, here are some of my observations.....unless you have something "special" hanging from the stroller, it looks like ALL the other strollers. It is made of hard plastic and doesn't look very comfy to me. Also, at the end of the day, your child will be very, very tired. And sometimes the walk from the bus stop to your room seems to be sooooo far. The stroller is great for this.

I like bringing my own stroller so I have it at the airport, too.
