Stolen Stroller

I would NEVER take in my own stroller, I'd ALWAYS use Disney's and never leave anything in them.

Never say never. I used to feel that way, too. Then I found myself with toddler twins and a preschooler. Sometimes, you need the stroller before you get to the park.

I actually think the best solution is to buy yourself a "Disneyland stroller." Now, some of us can't quite afford a separate stroller at the moment, but that's our plan once we have money for another double stroller. Just something cheap that you don't care if it gets stolen or not. Ebay and craigslist often have used strollers that'd fit the bill.

We bought a "cheap" $50 stroller for our trip. I will be just as peeved if it gets stolen as I would a $500 stroller.

Thieves royally piss me off. I have been stolen from a few times and it just makes me more angry every time.

Our "Disneyland" stroller was about $55. Yes, I would have been pissed if it was stolen, just because people are jerks and it's annoying. But...I would be WAY more upset if it was a $500 stroller (I don't own any strollers that expensive though.)

How much is it to rent a stroller at Disneyland? If I remember correctly, it would have cost more than $55 to rent a stroller in the parks for us. And we wouldn't be able to use it to walk to and from the hotel or at the airport. So to me, that makes no sense at all.

First, so sorry it happened to you, because I know the story exactly. Mine happened in 1998. I was 7.5 months pregnant and we were going on one last trip before I delivered and was to be stuck at home for the summer with two small children. We had just arrived for three days at DL. Very first day there ours was stolen. Luckily the only thing I had left in the basket was a brand new jacket that my husband and bought me for my birthday. But tell you what, it almost ruined the trip for us. My husband wanted to leave right then and there. And the reason being, the way we were treated by CMs, he was pretty upset. They kept acting like we were loony, that no one would ever steal anything at DL, and le[t saying that our stroller was just misplaced. So that was the "rub" for us. They were very nonchalant about it and did not want us to use the word "stolen" in front of other guests. (BTW, we did check back everyday we went back). Eventually my husband calmed down and we had a wonderful time, but for future trips we bought a cheap umbrella stroller. I never forgot that stroller as it was my favorite, and the most expensive stroller that I had ever spent money on and, of course, I couldn't find another one like it when we returned home. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely bring a lock just to save any heartache on ruining a trip.

Wow...that is awful! I can't believe the things some people do. :sad1:

Never heard about it when I frequented WDW and spent time daily on those boards. Sad to hear it happens at DL.

It happens at wdw, too.

Might be ok if you drove to Anaheim and are staying on property (though we are such commando tourers that DS wanted his wheels even when we stayed at the grand. Of course, the walk from our room to the center of the esplanade was as long as walking from HOJO to that same spot) but otherwise it's not just in the parks where strollers can be handy.

I used to have that mindset. Then I realized I wanted a stroller in the airport. And for the walk to and from our hotel.

Exactly. We never used a stroller at home (apart from the jogging stroller we used when I wanted to go jogging) but around Disney, most definitely.

Our family actually talked about the fact it is probably someone who got a season pass just for this reason.

Yeppers. It's a business.

But part of me relaxes a bit when I see Bugaboos with Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags. Like if they can leave that, we should be fine!

Definitely not the right thought process. :) Even I start thinking about taking those bags and I'm not a criminal.

Im like you. For me there is wallet anger and just anger. The plain anger is the same even if the stroller cost 50 cents. The violation is the same. To have someone steal your stuff doesn't feel good.

Lock the two BACK wheels together. The CMs can move it around, but unless the thief has a boltcutter in his/her pocket it's going to be a mighty awkward walk to the front of the parks with it!

Are wheel locks allowed at DL? I saw a review from 2014 of a lock on Amazon that says wheel locks are not allowed and CM will cut them?? I can understand if you lock the thing TO something but just the back wheels?

We used to lock our wheels together with a cable lock (it was actually meant for snowboards, but worked for the strollers too). We never had any issues, but we only had a standard Chicco stroller, nothing fancy. I remember reading a post on the Dis about someone else getting a stroller stolen, then finding a listing for it on Craigslist. Then going to the sellers house from Craigslist to buy the stroller and calling her out on it. They called the cops I believe and got the stroller back and the lady had a garage FULL of strollers! I cannot stand people who steal things. It's so terrible this happened to the OP and the other poster.

Thanks for all the replies. Our family actually talked about the fact it is probably someone who got a season pass just for this reason. The security officer we talked to said they get 3 or 4 reports a day. Sometimes they find them at the end of the day. Really sad that this happens. My daughter has decided next time she goes she will indeed lock her stroller up. Lesson learned.

Seriously 3-4 a day! That is over 1,000 strollers a year stolen. IMO that is a problem. Disney needs to do something about it. Set up a sting or something! It would only take a few people prosecuted to get the word out that this will not be tolerated. I realize this is only considered petty theft as the monetary value is not that much. And it would cost more money to set up a sting, and prosecute in the long run than the original strollers. But let's be real, this is turning into a big problem.
