Stolen door magnets

I had not thought about that and am considering having a magnet made saying something like “ please don’t take the magnets “ or something like that. Then again there most certainly will be people will take them just because I put that up there
I agree that a sign like that would be a challenge to some. I know some people have had personalized magnets stolen but it is pretty rare that people take magnets with someone else's name on it (if you are having magnets made anyway).

A serious question.

Why do you put magnets on your. Cabin door? I put ONE just so I don’t walk past my cabin.

But it seems like a lot of these magnets are very personal and tied to special memories, making them valuable and very much missed if they were taken? So maybe put them inside your cabin? All the walls are metal.

Just asking . .

Because I like to do it. I make all my magnets, so the images are meaningful to me.

We had a couple of magnets stolen on one cruise. All my magnets are personalized with name and room number (generally in a location that cutting that info out would seriously compromise the magnet). When we reported it to Guest Services, the next time we returned to our room there were some obviously handcrafted "magnets" (that is a couple pieces of colored paper saying things like "Have a nice cruise" with drawings of shells and waves) and a note apologizing for our situation.

I also have copies of the magnets I've made on my computer, so it was easy enough to replace the missing ones when I got home.

It's just something fun that a lot of people like to do. However, everyone that does it understands that theft happens and that it may end up happening to them. It's just part of the risk. Most people don't take the magnets that are personalized because they can't really use them on their door on a future cruise. Most of the magnets they get taken are the generalized magnets used for any occasion.

I think the CM's are taught/told to stay out of such encounters or actions. Just like retail employees are told not to confront shoplifters. They are not security officers, nor are they trained to be.
I had a grown man try to pick a fight with me in line for iasw in DLR because we accidentally cut in front of his aunt in line (a cast member waved us forward and we didn't see the aunt). I apologized but he still wanted to throw hands. We got a cast member's attention (janitor) but he didn't do anything either. I didn't want him to jump in or anything, I just wanted him to notify security. When he didn't, we exited the line because I didn't want to get sucker punched. I wonder if it was similar training, but I was surprised that there was no response whatsoever.

I for one am glad that people do it. It’s really fun to walk down the halls and see the different creative ways that people decorate their doors. It’s sad that there are a few bad eggs who do things to ruin the experience.

It is fun! I am someone who loves to decorate. It is a way to show a bit of our personality. Our door is Muppet Treasure Island themed. If a magnet is stolen, I just hope they are taking it because they also appreciate the Muppets.

Like others have said its fun.

And for me, I booked my first cruise in summer 2019 but then the world turned upside down, I had 2 cruises cancelled and rebooked and finally went on my first cruise in 2022. During the 3 years of uncertainty and cancellations, creating my door theme helped me to stay positive that I would eventually get on a Disney ship.

I agree with you. It feels very college dorm to me to see doors with stuff all over them.

Being on the cruise is what's fun for me. Sticking something on my door? Not fun. But I guess to each their own - as long as it doesn't extend into the hallway and impede passage. THEN it's super annoying.

And just as a note, because magnets walk away sometimes, it's always a good idea to know your cabin number (and/or take a pic and put it on your phone) and not count on that magnet. If it walks to another door, you're going to be very confused as to why you can't get into "your" room.

Im from Ireland. I didnt live in a college dorm and decorating things like cars, college dorms, highschool / college lockers, etc is not really a thing here. In Europe we see things like this on TV or in movies, and we associate it with American culture, so being able to decorate DCL doors is a novelty and a way to partake in something from a different culture :)
