Stolen door magnets

Well. I wasn’t going to post anything until after finally putting all my door magnets back on my board/s from our 5/2 - 5/6.
Like I said I wasn’t going to post anything until I realized one I had specifically purchased for the cruise was also stolen.
I put up stuff related to previous cruises ( just completed 4th DCL cruise ) and Disney World resorts we have stayed at.
These are the items I realized were stolen while on the cruise:
Old Key West magnet ( it was pretty sweet)
Disney Wish wooden ship magnet that we received during the inaugural sailings.
I discovered today ( and not sure how I missed it ) a really nice big blue magnet that had Disney Magic with the islands visited on the cruise and the dates.
Lesson learned to not bring current cruise magnet on the cruise.

Really disappointed that people would steal someone else’s magnet’s especially on a DCL cruise. I guess I could likely expect this on one of those party cruises but feel like most on a Disney Cruise are a cut above that type of stuff. I guess not.

Fortunately I was able to find replacements for the first two ( although not equal replacements) and just reordered the custom one I ordered before

Doesn’t surprise me at all. I had someone steal my lollipop holder on the last day of the cruise. Several magnets stolen through the years also.

I had some Christmas themed magnets on the Wish last November. The second day I noticed the character ones - Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale were missing. Reported it to Guest Services. Couple hours later got a message to go to GS. They brought a ziplock bag with some magnets- not mine. Went back and brought a different set which were my missing magnets.

I can see where maybe kids are pulling down magnets and then their parents turn them in since it's likely that they don't know which door they came from.

Friends sailed on the wish earlier this year and watched an adult couple going from door to door taking what they liked. They reported it to a CM who said it happens all the time and did nothing. They also confirmed it’s often adults taking them. The CM did not go with them to witness it and did not bother to pull video footage. They went back to their room and that couple was still removing them from doors in their hallway.

I would have taped them (since it sounds like it was very obvious) and then taken it to guest services.

They were afraid the people would confront them or because violent. They watched another person question what they were doing and the male got aggressive with that woman. My friends also mentioned this to the CM who again did nothing.

Edit: my friends said it would be their last Disney cruise. The lack of concern about theft from staff and aggressive guests was enough for them to say they were done.

I think the CM's are taught/told to stay out of such encounters or actions. Just like retail employees are told not to confront shoplifters. They are not security officers, nor are they trained to be.
They also did not offer to get security or review video footage and you know there are cameras everywhere on cruise ships.

Edit: They reported it at guest services not to a random CM.

The guests affected should have gone to Guest Services to report it. Then security could have reviewed any video that may have been available.
I hope they did and I hope security footage was pulled and people were banned for stealing.

I know this is a common issue. Hopefully someone here who was impacted and went to guest services can report if Disney pulled security footage and what sort of consequences there were for those who stole from them.

I was told that security does not review video to see who is stealing from stateroom doors. It isn’t their job - is what guest services said.

We had our first magnet stolen on the fantasy last december. So disappointing.

Sailed last week mid ship on the Treasure. Whole different vibe. Never heard kids running up and down the hallway or saw random people in the hallway. No magnets stolen and I had all of my previous cruise magnets on the door.

Sadly, I wouldn’t put anything on your cabin door that you couldn’t stand to lose. I would have taped the crooks too. And maybe put it on YouTube or something? Or I would have demanded to talk to security. Easy to say that from the comfort of the couch. I only put a magnet on my door with the cabin number very prominently so no one would want it.

But out of the couple thousand passengers, it only takes one or two to ruin the experience.

You really thought that a cruise full of children was less subject to theft than a party cruise? Nobody on the party cruise cares about other peoples’ magnets. Kids, OTOH… and I’m not saying it was kids who did it, just that they’re far more prone to it.

I wrote this on the back of all my magnets and door decorations. "This magnet has been stolen from room xyz, please return."

I also take a photo of my door on embarkation day when I put the magnets up and I take a photo every night before going to bed.

I put a pin board for pin trading on my door , and again take regular photos of it during the cruise. I have come home with less pins than I started with, so some were defiantly stolen.

I also put my sentimental magnets high up on the door, as a deterrent from kids taking them.

Do you not reuse magnets from cruise to cruise? My stateroom number changes each sailing, so while I can see how writing on them might help, I’m not sure how useful that would be if you cruise frequently.

That said, I think missing door magnets are the exception rather than the norm—aside from a few special cases like AP magnets, which are highly coveted by some. We've done 16 Disney cruises since 2020 and have never had a magnet go missing. We’ve used both personalized magnets and generic character ones. Our current door is themed as an ode to Muppet Treasure Island, filled with Muppet and pirate magnets!

Now, pin boards are a different story. It seems like some people don’t realize they’re meant for trading, and others do know but still take the pins without leaving any. We eventually stopped doing pins because of that.

I have done 2 cruises on the Dream and I am booked on The Fantasy in August. I have had the same number room on all cruises as I request it from my TA when bookings open.

I made my door decorations for my first cruise on The Magic, so it was easy to change the room number on the back of everything.

One of our daily DVC gifts was a cute Dumbo magnet. The DVC rep clearly told us to use them on the inside of our door because they are prone to theft 🤦🏼‍♀️ So sad!

We've done 21 and never had any disappear either. Actually we've gained a couple that had notes attached and we do not do FE's.
