stocking stuffer ideas?

I still have to narrow mine down! My stockings are always too full and spill onto the couch.

I do candy, always a Pez for each kid, some chocolate. The kids really liked the character band-aids they got last year; I usually buy the cheap, boring ones so those were a nice treat, I'll do that again.

DS-8
Star Wars playing cards
Phineas and Ferb trading pins
Small Lego set
Lego random minifigure
Minecraft plush
Skylanders figure (if there's room)
Maybe a DVD?

DD-5
Doc McStuffins puzzle
Ariel Palace Pets
Lego random minifigure
Small Lego set
My Little Pony plush
Chapstick (Walmart had some cute tins, still need to get)
Maybe a DVD?

DS-2
Mickey puzzle
Small Duplo Lego set
Fingerpaints
Plush fox
I should probably get him a small car or something, he loves that stuff
Maybe a DVD?

I like to buy personal hygiene items, socks, etc., but only if it's something I don't usually buy - like plush, slipper socks or character bubble bath. But every family has something special that makes them unique, so do whatever works for your family! I know my parents and my DH's parents used to do the fruit in the toe - we didn't continue that tradition, but have fond memories of it. :)

For a baby I'm trying to remember what we did - usually not too much stuff, maybe a stuffed animal, the links or sippy cup is a good idea. A little board book? Or what about some Princess Little People? What about one of those banana toothbrushes or something similar? I remember my DD had one, would be cute - http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Banana-Bendable-Training-Toothbrush/dp/B002QYW8LW

I usually find some cool stocking stuffer items at the dollar section of Target.

always new toothbrushes (usually some cool character that's in now)

DS10 is getting some Angry Birds mini-fig type things, Lego mini-figs, candy, an orange or apple, and a game of Pick up Sticks.

DD (20) is getting makeup, candy and fruit.

Need ideas for stocking stuffers. I have a 5 month old, 4 year old and 10 year old. What is everyone else doing for their children?

DS11: generic leatherman tool, Tardis soap dispenser, book, Doctor Who mini figures, Astronaut ice cream, petri dishes, a Reunite Pangea tshirt, periodic table flash cards, bottle of Coke (he always wants some in the glass bottle, but I tell him no).

DS20: dehydrated food for backpacking, socks, mini bottle of cologne, book, Zippo lighter (he doesn't smoke - but will use for camping), cookies, gift card to Subway, some disposable thermometers (he's building a first aid kit)

Family we're helping sponsor at church:

DGs 15 & 16: spa socks, nail polish, nail wraps, lip gloss, bath and body works, little cosmetic mirror, pretty little notebook and pen

DB 3: toy car, light up ball, crayons, coloring book, socks, gloves, a couple of plastic animals, animal crackers

Those are great items!!

I was thinking about getting a sippy cup specific for 6+ months age and those plastic links for the 5 month old but I'm not really sure what else to get. I don't want her stocking to be skimpy even though she won't know the difference.

My 4 year old I was thinking a couple hot wheels, bath soap but not sure what else

My 10 year old I got 2 necklaces, 2 bracelets, thinking of shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, nail polish?

For your baby, what about a bath mitt puppet, a soft baby doll, and maybe one of those soft fleece little rolled up throws?

Ok. Maybe I am missing something, but why would you give your DD shampoo, conditioner and deodorant in a Christmas stocking? To me, that is equivalent to putting coal in the stocking.

Nail polish hits the fun list, perhaps some polish remover too!

For the same reason, I personally do not like the bath soap idea either.

For the 6 mo old-two sippy cups will fill the stocking more than 1 cup will. And you've got a toy too!

Sorry about my opinion, I am struggling with what to put in DD's stocking too. I considered getting some laundry soap (1-load packets) as she is going to Europe for a class in January, and I gave myself the coal-chat too.

Usually if we do it, it's special deodorant to match their cologne, pretty smelling soap, etc.

How big are y'alls stockings that you can fit all that stuff into a stocking?

I also agree that buying shampoo, conditioner, body wash and deodorant as stocking stuffers is way off base from cool fun stuff that kids want in stockings. Buying personal hygiene items should be a daily given item that you provide to your kids, not as a gift.

My kids stockings are normal size custom stockings with their name embroidered on them. And I only ever fill them with candy items. We don't buy or keep candy in our house much except for candy holidays like Halloween and Easter. So I get them a bunch of Christmas type items like the Life Saver books and the big plastic candy cane shaped things full of candy. I spent $60 on 3 kids stocking stuffers but got a few too many items to fit.

I don't like to give them too much candy, and we don't keep it in the house, either. I usually only put one or two special pieces of candy in their stocking. I don't understand just filling up the stocking with candy.

Yes because I say so. My thoughts my opinion. I let my kids pick their own personal hygiene items.

Axe body spray is a little bit different than deodorant and shampoo.

I also don't agree with giving kids socks and underwear as gifts. i think those are things parents should provide their kids as needed not as a gift.

I think I'd better keep my opinion to myself, this time.

Because she's entering the "puberty" stage and she thinks stuff like that is a big deal. She's a girly girl and likes shampoo etc.

Well thank you to those who actually posted something that was HELPFUL. To each their own but I always received shampoo/conditioner, etc in my stocking along with other items as a kid. I appreciated and liked everything I got.
If I want to buy my child those same things, someone telling me is stupid on the Internet is hardly going to change my mind. I think it's funny how some people act so high and mighty on the Internet when we all know you wouldn't act this way in real life. What ever happened to teaching appreciation for things received? Your attitudes show the opposite!

Thanks again to the ones who actual contributed to my question instead of starting a debate!

I often do body wash for my girls (ages 7,10 and 13). They love to have their own and they love to have Christmassy type scents from bath and body works or places like that. I always have body wash, but it is shared and usually cheaper--dial, Nivea, cvs brand. I also usually do candy, nail polish, gum, mechanical pencils, markers, mad lib books, lip gloss, iTunes cards, scratch off lottery tickets and maybe a book. When they were littler I would do crayons and coloring books, a small stuffed animal/ doll, maybe batteries if I knew they were getting something that required them, doll clothes, hair accessories like ponytail elastics or barrettes and some age appropriate snacks--gerber puffs, teething biscuits, ect. I love putting a stocking together.

Son, 8: Tooth Tunes, pencil sharpener, erasers, baseball cards, Lego mystery packs, Push Pops, gum (all the stuff mom usually refuses to buy), ornament.

Husband: guitar strings, chap stick, some 45s, ornament

Dad: dark chocolate bars, packs of nuts, Burts Bees.

Dad's girlfriend: linen dishtowels, hand cream

Sister in law: Sephora mini polishes, nail polish strips, coffee beans

Brothers: 33 1/3 books, Godiva, jerky

Where did you find the tooth tunes toothbrush at? I have been looking for one for DD stocking and can't find it anywhere!

Totally agree! I am a couponer and have a small stash of 'acceptable' hair care products but for my birthday I asked for a nicer brand that has never been on sale. Love using it!

OP - I have a little one also. Some ideas I read about for his stocking were sippy cups, finger puppets, small book, baby socks or booties.

When my twins were only four months old at Xmas my dh suggested we look to the coming year. That meant baby shampoo, a few new bibs, face cloths, small toys, push cars, baby snacks (those dissolving cookies), etc. when you think of all the growing that will happen it opens up more possibilities.

We also put personal hygiene items in all our stockings. My mum did and so do we.

I also check out the toy store for cute little toy items that are usually near the cash.

Pencils, pens, crayons, stickers, milk straws, small stuffy. I could go on and on. Love stockings. ....oh, and hand knit mittens this year.

We try hard to put things that are not junk but will be used but still fun to get. DS7 is getting a ninja turtle spin tooth brush and tooth paste and yes he will be excited. He's also getting NT bath gel, wash cloth and lip balm. There will be a few new card games, a bit of candy and some other snack foods. Always a few books, a few action figures and until this year a few match box cars. Most years a new box of markers or other art supplies and most year a pack of themed underwear and yes it will be ninja turtle this year!!!!

Suggestions:
Baby: sippy cup, a few finger baby snacks like the puffs that she will be ready to eat soon, a board book, a bath toy, baby wash , powder if you use it.

5 year old: most of the stuff we got our 7 year old, flash lights, small lego sets, etc

10 year old: I so love girls stockings!!! Fun bath products, nail stuff, hair stuff, fun crafts stuff like the bracelet making supplies, fun socks, cute undies, a bit of candy, a couple small gift cards etc.

"We Will Rock You" was hard to find, but I eventually got it at WM. CVS, Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid all carry them. Black Eyed Peas and One Direction are easy to find. And some female singer … Selena Gomez, maybe? In the regular toothbrush aisle.

baby ideas: new teether, boo boo buddy for when they start getting mobile, bath book, puffs or baby mum mums, Christmas rubber ducky, basically anything they need and can safely pull out of a stocking

toddler: washable crayons or markers, stamps in fun shapes, stickers, gummies in a fun shape (my toddler is getting dinosaur gummies), tub toys such as foam letters, fun utensils 9my toddler is excited whenever he gets to eat with his Mickey or Sesame Street utensils), dog knife (cuts pretty well and a great starter knife because the design trains a child how to hold a knife safely and the blade is too dull to cut skin)

preschool: part of a fun block set, Duplos figures, Alphabet gummies, small foam art kit, musical instruments, sticker sets, hair accessories

lower grade school: flavored chap stick (I like Burts Bees), mini Christmas Lego set, Lego minifigure packet, chapter book, gift card for apps, arts and craft supplies, crazy or character socks, new fancy tights or leggings, temporary tattoos (I like these hand tattoos), action figure/Barbie, compact game like Banana Grams, hair accessories

tweens: bey blades, sparkly lip gloss, bracelet making supplies, Legos, Choose Your Own Adventure book, mini snap circuits set, apps gift card, two movie tickets so he/she can take a friend with the promise to pick up and drop off (as long as you help choose the movie), unusual soda, poster of favorite band rolled up

teens: gift card to Target or Amazon, fancy make up or nail polish set, cologne or perfume, aftershave, texting gloves, new keychain, hair chalk, college or high school booster stuff, nicer jewelry

college student: stuff for their dorm or apartment; gift card to Target, Wal-Mart, pizza delivery, restaurant or grocery store within walking distance; Keurig single serve coffee disks (with coffee maker under the tree), nice business card holder (with mini resume business cards in it) if he or she will be interviewing for jobs or internships next semester

Thank you guys for your suggestions! So much to choose from. You guys are awesome!

My youngest would love to find that in his stocking. He likes to leave fake dog doo around the house to trick everyone. I'm thinking I could give a little pay back in his stocking this year
