Stocking craft ideas?

After Christmas this year I realized our stockings are on their last legs so I went out and bought some new plain ones yesterday on sale. I was wondering if you guys could help me with ideas on how to decorate them if I don't sew? Last time I wrote the names on with glitter glue type pens and now 5 years or so later they're all cracked and messed up. Are there iron-on type letters that would work? The stockings I bought aren't the furry kind - they're cloth.

Or, are there patterns like embroidery or something that a novice like me might be able to attempt? I obviously have a whole year to work on them but I'm thinking I should check out the craft stores for their sale stuff now before it disappears.
