Stingray Encounter at CC

"The Castaway Ray's stingray adventure was so great!! We did have to switch the time because it was lightening and raining, but we were able to do it. Then we we able to snorkel with them for about 1/2 hour.
At Discovery Cove we were not allowed to snorkle with the stingrays.

The excursion was about an hour in total. There was an educational overview on shore first, then time in the water to feed the stingrays and then I believe it was 35 minutes to snorkel with the stingrays on your own.

Can children do this on their own? I have a medical limitation right now that does not allow me to go into the water, but I think that DS might really enjoy this... can I accompany him maybe but not go in?

Although we swim, and have a pool, none of us has ever snorkled in the ocean. I & DH are strong swimmers, my son is above average; probably would do ok. Is there an inflatable vest involved to help with bouyancy issues?

I'm claustraphobic and don't really like to swim underwater, tried scuba & hated it. Will I be able to see much if I just skim along the top of the water?

Confused as to Stingray Excursion. Do you get to pet them from platform, wade in ocean and snorkle in the pen w/them?

Thanks.

You will most definitely be able to see and touch the stingrays without going under the water. The stingrays come very close to shore so no need to go very far into the water to see and touch them. You get to feed and touch them on the platform and then afterwards snorkel, swim and enjoy them for a good 35 minutes.

Thanks, I was concerned about being in open/deep water, I'm such a chicken  .

I called Cruise Line reservations today and asked about the Stingray Excursion at Castaway Cay. The very nice castmember said as of right now we have no information for this excursion. I guess they will only allow you to book it on the boat once you get on the boat. :confused3 I don't know seems silly to me, unless after they have had it a few times they will let you sign up. Who knows. Sorry I can't share more info but they don't have it or won't share it.
