If the government gives us back some of our own money we will inject it where we need it to be. We do not pork barrel and we do not play favorites.

If the government does it there is an excellent chance they will make a mistake.

I am in favor of a stimulus but not this one. I am annoyed my tax money is going to pay for some CEO's family vacation instead of helping my neighbors pay their heating bill.

I am a Republican and I opposed the last stimulus and this stimulus.

It isn't stimulus, it's just pork!

I did see today that some of money being reported as part of a stimulus is actually tax cuts. I hadn't realized that before.

I think this poll reflects the BIG problem with the stimulus package.

The People don't support it. (Currently only 25% in this poll).

A true stimulus package would have to get the support of The People to work. Why? Because the government needs the support to restore consumer confidence.

No matter how much money they spend, if consumers don't start to loosen the purse strings a little, recovery will be farther off.

Has anybody done the math on the stimulus? $825 Billion to create 4 million jobs. That's $206,000 to create each job. Government spending is not the solution. It's the problem!

Exactly! Tax cuts are one thing, spending just to spend is an entirely different ballgame. I'm left wondering just how long it will be before China decides they want their money back and want it back NOW, I mean as it stands they hold the mortgage to America. I truley believe that if we continue to increase our debt this country is done for.

I agree. China is already talking about not buying anymore US debt. If that happens the US will be up the creek without a paddle.

The tax cuts that are included in the stimulus package makes me lol. How can it be considered tax cuts when over 40% of the people who will receive refunds do not pay federal income tax?

I'm actually surprised at these results so far. From reading the other stimulus thread I would have thought all Dems supported the package and none of the republicans support it.

It looks like most of us don't support it, no matter which side of the aisle we are on. :) See.....we can all agree and get along. :grouphug: :rotfl:

I know it probably won't happen but what if China does decide to collect on the money owed? What happens then?:confused3

Another Republican here who opposed the first bail out and also opposes this one.

Everyone remember to write to your Representative and Senators. They need to know what the people think.

China isn't loaning us this money currently. The Fed has just been turning paper into gold since Oct to pay for the bailout and they'll do the same for this new one. What happens to the cost of everything and the real value of everyone's savings when the amount of currency a country has goes from X dollars to 2X or more in a matter of months?

What is hyperinflation and food shortages?

Independant here and totally do not support the stimulus, nor the previous one.

Seems like most people are thinking with their heads on this one.

Independant who oppose the 'stimulus' plan. It aint gonna stimulate any of us.

Am I the only one who read the title of this thread diffrently?pirate:

Are you sure? I'm confused because I read the part of the bill relating to the tax cuts, and it did NOT indicated that the $500/$1000 credits would be refundable....did I miss that?

There are parts of it I like but also things I don't like. I doubt that they can ever make everyone happy though.

I opposed the first stimulus and I oppose the second.

As of right now it looks like around 70% of us are against it and I can tell you no-one I know at the PTA meetings or in the bleachers of my kids sporting events is behind it either. Yet the execs are still padding their pockets with our money and Congress - like a chicken without its head- is still trying to shove our money into their pockets and all the while people are still losing jobs. Who are they kidding? NO-ONE believes this is going to help... NO-ONE so it won't even have the residual effect of improving consumer confidence. What on earth are they thinking?

I think this has a now become an issue of pride where the Democrats in power are unwilling to accept that they should rethink things and try another strategy. In case no-one can remember their history, it was a long time before our Government was able to figure out how to fix things during the Great Depression. Frankly, I'd rather they sit on their hands and think things through for a while before they go throwing my money, and my kids futures out the window.

What a mess.

Why do you think it probably won't happen?

Why does everyone think that we can be deeply in debt and keep spending and it will never come back to haunt us?

Why does everyone act like all that debt isn't a big deal?

Does everyone really believe that the debt is just some nebulous thing that will disappear on its own?

I just really and truly do not understand. :faint:

The Chinese have learned that taking on so much American debt actually caused them to lose that strong hand. Their banks hold so much of our debt and currency that their economic future is tied to ours. When the dollar slips, it hurts them as much as us.

Were they to push for payment and we to either say no or declare the debt invalid in any way, they would see every major financial institution in China fold.

They bit off more than they could chew, and they now know it. In a way, they have become our silent partners...
