First let me say... I loved the the ride Rockin Roller Coaster; but I thought I was going to act a fool on this ride because my head/shoulder rest did not lock and they had already moved the "limo." I had to scream at the CM to stop the ride. We were about to take off and my shoulder rest still wasn't locked. Let me tell you the words I said can't be type but it went something like @@@@****&&&&&&&&&& shoulder rest.

Finally, a different CM came over and pushed really hard down on the head/shoulder rest and it locked. Then we were off.

Again, it was a really cool ride but I felt the CMs at just that ride where more concerned about moving the people through than making sure everyone's shoulder rest was lock.

I spoke with a supervisor afterward to express my concerns. I also rode the ride again after the first incident.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Wow, that's scary.... I've never experienced this, but I don't think I would have been a happy camper either! I'm glad the next trip on RnRC was better!

Never happened to me, but that would really freak me out! Did you know that you would be going upside down?

I am sorry to hear about this. I have gone to many amusement parks and I have stressed to my son, never rely on a cm or employee of the park to make sure you are secure. I always tug on the thing before they do their "check". thank god in your instance they heard you screaming. Some guy died at six flags new england on the superman ride, flew out of the seat. they said the employees did not check to see if all was secure. After that incident I made sure my ds knows to check himself.

Oh they would have known there was a problem like you did yelling. But they would have also found a mess on the seat too.

No, but I do feel like when something is wrong like that, that they can sometimes treat you like you've over-reacted. I have had it not lock down right away on several occasions or not open up to be let out and I'm always met with rolling eyes and huffy sighs.

I always check mine and my ds whenever we go on anything too. But the one time on the RNR coaster, my son said mom my harness wont stay down. It was locked but not close to him at all...he is only 7 yrs old....now imagine if we had not told the CM's about this problem!!! They came over and pushed down on it really hard and they got it to lock closer to him . Every time after that, him and I both checked it, and checked it again to make sure that it was all the way down. :sad2:

I'm sorry this happened to you! I would have totally freaked as well!!! I don't go on roller coasters but I'm glad to have read this so I can remind my kids to always double check themselves.

Thank you for posting.

I've never been on RNR but on rides like this where the restraint actually protects you, shouldn't there be a computer that tells them if not everyone's restraint is locked in place? I know, computers have errors too, but I would hope there is something more than just some tired CM checking it. :earseek:

A similiar thing happened to my daughter. She was riding RNR for the first time and when it locked down her arm was in an awkward position that kept it from being tightly locked. It had to be opened back up before she could move her arm out of the way. We called and called for a CM.....it seemed to take a long time to get anyone to help. When they did, they acted like we were just a big pain in the neck! :sad1:

It upset my daughter so badly that she has never been back on the ride and I wouldn't be surprised if she never does! She had visions of it starting without her locked in well and then falling off. :scared: She told me after the ride that it totally kept her from enjoying it and she was never getting on again.

Of course, it was her that put her arm in wrong to begin with.....but it was the lack of response from the CMs that shook her up. She was only 10 years old, by the way.

In 2001 I was on a rollercoaster at Six Flags and just as the train was coming into the first loop, I felt the shoulder restraint unlock. A small belt that came between my legs and buckled into the shoulder restraint prevented the shoulder restraint from rising into the upright position, but it was still scary. I held onto the shoulder restraint and pressed it into my upper body as hard as I could.

When the train stopped, I went to talk to a ride operator about the problem and found him dealing with an hysterical child who crying and yelling that his restraint had failed. He had been on the ride with me. After hearing my story, the operator closed the ride until further inspection.

I have not been on a rollercoaster since then. I do, however, plan to ride Rock'n Rollercoaster when I visit WDW in September.

So, what's causing these restraints from not being engaged properly? Are they faulty, or do they just lock in place where the rider pulls them down to, then can't be tightened? Should everyone be warned to pull down on the harnesses as hard as possible? Should they up the height requirement, so that smaller/younger riders are excluded, because they have trouble doing their own harness system properly?

I'm sorry you went through that!

Once, on my first ride on IOA's Dr. Doom's Fearfall, I was locked in when the Universal guy went round on seatbelt checking, but he knocked it out :scared1: :scared: and went on! I yelled at him to come back, and he did (or I wouldn't be here :jumping1: ), but a close shave. ::yes:: Too close. :sad2: Due to that experience, I won't ride The Fearfall again....Ever!

Wow - these stories give me the creeps. I hate thrill rides, but I have a 14 year old son that rides alone while we wait. I bet he never double checks these things. Probably feels like it's Disney and he's safe...... :confused3

I know there was a news story a bit ago about a lady riding one of those hammer type rides at an amusement park/carnival (not sure which) and her harness didn't lock. She and her kid yelled to the ride worker - who didn't hear. She tried to hang on, but when the ride went upside down she fell out. Too awful. Just gives me nightmares. :guilty:

Thanks for posting. I am definitely going to warn my son and remind him to check and make sure everything is locked and secure. I just don't know if he would have the nerve to shout out and cause a scene!!

Good for you, lsteadman. How SCARY!!

wow, i love rollercoasters, but this would scare me. i try to avoid seats that were tied up and stuff because im afraid it will break. in fact, im afraid the the seats of the roller coasters more than the rollercoaster itself!! lol.but hearing this, this is dissapointing for disney a disney cm.

what was the reaction of the supervisor when you talked to him? This is really freaky. I would follow up with a letter and a phone call. We have had a couple of mishaps, but nothing on RoR where our safety would be in danger. thank goodness you yelled enough, it gives me goosebumps....

Scary! I am glad you're ok. Thank you for sharing your experience. It reminded me to be extra diligent on our trip.

Wow how scary, I know at a local amusement park here I ride a kid roller coaster with DD and the operator of the ride told us one time that the ride would not start if all the lap restraints were not locked down. You would think the big coasters would have the feature also! I am glad the CM heard you.
