Well - we have our hotel at the Caribbean - tickets for MNSSHP - car rented for one day to pick up odds & ends for the week - but we are still waiting for decent airfare... MSP - MCO --- Oct. 15 -24 -- leaving here early morning & returning from there late afternoon. Anyone else doing the same???

Hello -
I'm not as close to my trip as you are - but we have resort booked (CSR) and want to book flights but they're too expensive so far for our travel dates. My issue is I really prefer to fly non-stop and cannot find anything under $500 per person for our dates (President's week in February). I'm kind of feeling like our trip might not happen if the flight prices don't come down. :sad2:

I hope you find some good sales soon so you can book your airfare.:thumbsup2

If you are trying to fly to Orlando during Feb school vacation it is going to be crazy expensive. Direct air is flying out of Worcester and having their voucher sale. $159pp rt non-stop to Sanford. We did this April school vacation and saved so much $$. $600 for our family, including seat assignment fees.

I don't want to be a downer, but when we used to fly every Presidents Week we booked at 330 days out because the prices just continued to go up from there. Presidents Week is one of the most expensive times I have ever flown including Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving weeks. We fly from the NE and it seems that by February EVERYONE is looking for warmer weather.

I hate to jump on the negative bandwagon also but not counting SW and Jetblue which roll out flights over time, I have found its better to book almost a year in advance as air almost always goes higher and then retrofit in the hotels and free dining and so on. The only exception seem to be Airtan where a 1 pm nonstop from LGA to MCO booked in January for November will turn into a midnight three stop flight from PHI to LAX (Ok maybe a little exaggeration)

I'll try to be Sally Sunshine here. We bought our plane tickets on Monday for our Disney trip Starting september 18th. We were lucky ive been following the tickets for 6 months and they dropped over 20 bucks a ticket and we were able to get them and save 40 bucks. We looked the next day and they were back up again. We were pretty happy!

So if you keep watching you may find something decent.
The only difference is we are flying Sacramento to Orlando I dont know how that compares to MSP!

Good luck and Pixie Dust!

Actually my adult kids and GKs are waiting for a decent price for a flight HOME to Wash.DC. We all have our flight to WDW for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, but they are all flying home on Sunday Nov. 7 after the cruise and the flight is 3 times the normal, so they wait. We are flying home on Friday after and have our tickets as our flight was reasonable. They have options. They could fly home on Monday instead, or into BWI instead of Dulles and rent a car to drive to Dulles to pick up their cars, or rent a car in FL and drive home. So they are keeping all options open right now while they wait.

Don't worry you're not the downer . ;)
It's our school district that changed our february vacation this year for the first time in 11 years . . . we always had the very last week of february - even if it started february 28th -but this year they changed the calendar.
I'd like to bill them for the difference!!!! The prices for the week we normally would go are $300 less per person!
I usually book when the fares first come out - but even Delta - who I don't prefer - hasn't dropped below $1,000 per person since they opened - $1,000 per person - yes, it's true!!!!

I have looked at DirectAir a few weeks ago; but the downside is they only appear to have one flight out per day for the times we're traveling ; if any issues with weather or mechanical delays that could really impact travel getting out. Thanks for the tip though!

We're going the same dates you are. I couldn't take it anymore. I booked this week. I've been watching for months. I finally saw them go down about $50 and I jumped on it. In February when we went, I booked 2 1/2 months out and two weeks later, they dropped $100. I use to get great airfare! Those days are a thing of the past I'm afraid. I was satisfied with what I paid ($320 RT from SLC), and I won't look anymore cause if they do go down, it's only going to depress me. This is our first time going in October too, so I really didn't know what to expect as far as fares for that timeframe go. At least I'm not stressing about it anymore!

As you know, that time frame covers MEA (10/21 % 10/22). I think you are going to have a tough time finding inexpensive airfare, especially for 23rd or 24th return. The airlines that serve MSP know that there are lots off families who travel during that time frame. In my experience, the best prices for that time (like other school holiday weeks) are available when fares are first released or lst minute (ifyou have the nerve. That's tough for me,LOL).

Check frequently and jump on anything that approaches $250 pp RT. You still have time. Good luck!

Wnat is MEA on the 21st and 22nd? :confused3 Teacher's convention in Minnesota maybe?

Bing.com airfare predictor says fares for msp-mso for those dates will drop in the next 7 days. Need to check 2 to 3 times a day. Current is $323 round trip. I'd expect it to drop $50-$75 but you have to catch it quick. Won't stay down this close to your trip date.

Also keep checking Southwest. They are expensive at abour $360 now but could easily drop in the next two weeks as a guess. Don't forget that Southwest does not charge any luggage fees. That can amount to $50-$100/rt per person over most other airlines.

Yes, and if anything the fares might go up for that time frame. Sadly the prices to fly out of Minnesota are the highest in the country. Always have been and it seems that won't change any time soon.

Good luck OP.

I am waiting too for Dec 5th to return to BWI or IAD. The tickets for SW are 158.00:eek:

Going I got 92, but I am praying that they go down a bit. Any thoughts??

That's how it is for our NJ Teachers Convention week. Our schools close 2 days and usually coincides with Election Day. Half the classes are empty.

Because of huge demand for flights, I have to buy as soon as it's possible to book cuz it skyrockets up. For our Oct flights, we booked back in spring on SW for the southbound leg. Within 2 hrs, the price doubled. Anyone waiting and watching for prices to drop will be stuck.
For our return, we booked USAirways (to be able to use Onboard Check In) back in like Dec. or so. I got up at 5 am and thought $118 was high but bought anyway. Within 1.5 hrs, it was over $200.

For other non-demand times of year, it's safer to wait and watch, esp. if you can be flexible with dates/times. Unfortunately, when it comes to cruising, can't be flexible.

Depending on how many people the OP has flying, we fly out of Milwaukee and I have $74 each way on Airtran for October 21-26. Might be worth driving here and flying nonstop from Milwaukee instead of MSP
