Still so very sick

Can someone please tell me how long this will last.... I have been sick since Sunday and I can't take it anymore... I went to the doctors yesterday and she gave me a script for antibiotics if my temp goes up...I have nasal congestion, chest congestion, coughing, sneezing, body aches..... I am miserable and therefore I am up at 6am because I can't breath.....

I'm not a doctor (and I don't play one on tv, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) but that sounds like a cold/flu/virus - not anything that would respond to an antibiotic.

right there with ya! Also don't forget the overwhelming fatique! I am so tired all the time.... I am tired even when I get up. My voice comes and goes...the cough is getting less but still there.....oh and did I tell you how tired I am?!?!?

My bf had it for three weeks. He refused to come around me or the kids for that time to keep us from getting it. That part worked, but none of the over the counter meds helped him really.

Dear OP, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I was down with it last week and missed 3 days of work. Although I'm back at work this week I am so tired. I go to work and when I come home I lay around. I have started taking a daily vitamin, thinking that will get my energy back.

The most important thing you can do is drink plenty of water. Even if you don't feel like it, force yourself to drink a glass every hour.

And to all of us who are suffering with illness right now!

I've been sick for about 2 weeks now. It is just now starting to let up a little. The body aches are pretty much gone, but my head still hurts all the time. And this CONGESTION - make it stop!!! Nothing I have taken is even touching it.

DH had it for just over 2 weeks, but DS fought it off in under a week...symptoms that is, both are still REALLY tired and drained, but at least back on thier feet. They did not have antibiotics though, just OTC stuff.Hope you start on the mend soon.

For those of you with congestion that OTC meds are touching, try to get something with psuedophedrine (sp) in it. I had to go to the Dr. to get it by prescription as you can't buy it OTC the counter now where I live. Some places you can still get it but its behind the pharmacy counter (I believe you have to show ID, sign for it and only get a limited amount). I found its the only thing that works for me.

well I am not taking the antibiotic unless I get a temp....

3 weeks minimum ... my BF has had it since 1/6/09 and she has been through 3 different anti-b's; she got sidetracked by either flu or noro and is still trying to get the stuff out of her head ...

It doesn't even sound like the flu to me, it sounds like a cold. I have one now, and have had it since Friday. Lots of liquids, Mucinex, and sleeping propped up is helping. Antibiotics won't do a thing.

If it were the flu you wouldn't even be able to drag yourself up to the computer to post.

Thank you all for the well wishes.... I am debating going back to work tomorrow... I am so tired..... I get out of bed and I could go back to bed for the rest of the day... I can't be down for 3 weeks.. I am in my last few months of grad school and I work full time at work... I need to get things done.... so here I lay on the couch once again...

I am so sorry you are sick. I got the flu back in the early 70's. I was so sick, I swore I would never, ever get it again. I have had a flu shot every single year since then and I have been flu free since then.
