I'm still scheduled to stay at POFQ in late April which I know isn't happening. It's time for me to call since I haven't heard from Disney. Anyone been moved lately and where did they move you? I think I am price protected but only for original dates.

Huh, how do you have a 2021 POFQ reservation? I thought they weren't allowing any reservations to be made there when they opened up bookings for 2021.

I guess if you somehow have a reservation, they would move you to Coronado or Caribbean since those are the two main moderates open (Fort Wilderness is also open, but since you were at French Quarter and their rooms only allow 4 or fewer people, I doubt they'd give you a cabin at FW as it is geared toward larger parties).

FYI, 499 days out room only reservations had been available for all resorts prior to the closure. While less common, there are some folks who booked way in advance and still have active reservations on the books.

If you have a preference as to where you want to ask for, I would call now. If you don’t care where they put you, go ahead and wait.

I was booked for the Poly the first day they are taking room reservations - July 19 - for my 50th birthday trip. I started getting nervous looking at availability (especially with the Tower section of the Contemporary being out of commission also) and realized the longer I waited, the more likely I was to be stuck with Wilderness Lodge (I know most people love it, but it is not my style - and I think their new rooms look tacky with that stupid CAMP sign and such.) or the Grand (it just feels too stuffy for me to ever be able to relax). So I opted to take my own fate in my hands and move to a 1BR Savanna View at Kidani (I had a TPV at the Poly booked, so the 1BR was roughly the same cost.) rather than take the chance and wait and not be happy with the remaining options.

I just gave up on a phone call and will try again during the Super Bowl. I made my reservation in May 2020 and was surprised then that it went through.
I'm definitely not interested in FW. I stayed at Caribbean once and was at the far end of Jamaica. That was a long walk to Old Port Royale. I've never stayed at Coronado but I have heard there are few dining options open now.

We've stayed at Coronado once and really liked it. That was years ago, however. The rooms were very nice, and we were in Casitas #3, close to the main building. Now Casitas 3 is a preferred building. We liked the tropical atmospher of that area. I wouldn't be afraid of staying there again.

I can't speak for CBR (this one doesn't appeal to us) but we love Coronado. The Tower is beautiful. We like the other areas too. The only area we haven't stayed in is Cabanas (which I think I'd prefer over Casitas and Ranchos at this point due to its location).

I would recommend trying to call again, as mentioned earlier since things fill up, esp as people might be more willing to travel over the next few months.

Good luck!

In that case I assume you mean you reserved it at rack rate, since that would have been far too early for discounts. I would think you'd be better off dropping your price protected (but rack rate) room at POFQ and instead getting a new reservation with the available 2021 discounts.

Good plan calling during the Super Bowl!
I suggest going online and checking to see the discounts offered during your dates, so you have that knowledge when you call.
I would still call and see what they say - I am hoping you get a lil Disney magic like a free upgrade!

as I remember in the early days a lot were moved to OKW, some who had 5 person reservations even got 1brs

At that time, CBR and CSR were not open, and things were also a bit more flexible/up to the CM. At some point, they implemented a matrix of corresponding resorts and the free upgrades dried up.

I also have an April reservation for POFQ. We booked it pre-covid. It's our preferred resort so I tend to book it early, once I know our dates. Unless it's a really sweet upgrade, we are likely not going in April and will change the reservation to December. I'd love to know POFQ will be reopened then but will have to make a backup plan.

I'm super interested to see if you can move the res to December!

I'm wondering if the other resorts that are set to open this March/April etc will still open as scheduled. OP have you received any sort of email asking if you still plan on coming? They sometimes (?) send those out to gauge attendance and will include a message about how you will be contacted if your resort will not be open during your dates. I have no idea how long it would take to receive a contact, after the email. I wanted to mention it though in case you had not received it to at least be on the look out for one.

Caribbean Beach is big but it has the bonus of the skyliner!

We were at CB in 2016 (or maybe 15, I can't keep track), and my family did not like it at all (there were 5 of us in 2 rooms). It is so large and spread out that it was impossible to really enjoy the resort ammenities, and the buses were standing room only jam packed every single day. I think if there had been two buses it would have been ok, and I am sure the Skyliner makes a difference for Epcot and HS... but it's a never again for us.

At least there isn't standing on buses at all anymore. Everyone has an assigned seat, no more packing in like sardines.

Which come to think of it may be partly why the Port Orleans resorts aren’t open. The more resorts that are open the more buses they need. And unlike CBR that has skyliner to reduce bus cost, and Coronado which has pricier Gran Destino rooms to offset cost. Adding POR/POFQ is a lot of extra expense for Disney at a time when it is not close to filling currently open resorts.

This!! If you did not get a discount rate when you first booked, then I would just cancel and rebook with a discount rate at another resort.

I finally made a decision today. I was originally offered CSR. The CM asked me about needing tickets and I told her I get the military salute. She then starting checking for a military discount. I could have gotten CSR or GDT for less then POFQ but then she mentioned Kadani Village for almost the same as my original booking. This is probably my only chance to stay there so I grabbed it.

She told me that they are contacting people about 60 days out.
