Hi we are leaving for wdw in 2 weeks and the great debate remains where to get a double stroller from. We have two kids, dd(6) and ds(4) who has aspergers. We will definitely need a stroller. However, can't find one that holds their weight. Dd is 58lbs and ds is 62lbs. I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact I will have to rent Disney double stroller. The other rental companies outside of Disney don't seem to have large strollers. I was just hoping to avoid them again. Aside from the lack of comfort they offer, they are way overpriced. Just looking for any moms who have been in similar situations and what you have done. Thanks for any advice.

The MacLaren Quests hold 65 lbs (I think all the Macs do). You can find a previous year model for a really good price. They also push VERY easily with older/heavier children in them.

All Macs go up to 55lbs, except the Techno XLR which goes up to 65lbs. I own a Mac Triumph and Techno XLR and they are both absolutely fabulous strollers. You can't go wrong with a Triumph, Quest, regular Techno or Techno XLR. I don't care for the Mac Volo at all as it's scrunchy for taller kids like my children, even though they are well below the weight limit. Make sure if warranty is important to you, that you only purchase from an authorized dealer, if not, then Mac will not cover you for warranty issues at all.

Happy stroller shopping, Tiger :)

Take a look at various brands of double joggers. We own a Baby Jogger double and it pushes like a dream no matter how much weight we put in it. There are other brands as well, like Dreamer, Bob, Mountain Urban (or something like that?), can't think of the others.

We've tried many joggers (single and double) and although they are made to hold weight, they are very short. Your kids will not fit in the joggers in regards to height - my tall 4 year old tried like 7 joggers and not one of them fit her height. That seems to be a common problem with joggers - they have the weight, but not the height, as my daughter's head touched the top of each one (even the very expensive Bob and Phil and Ted's).

Thank you all for the feedback. We went stroller shopping tonight. I just can't allow myself to spend that much money on a new stroller (that my kids are pretty tight in anyway) for this one vacation. I guess we are just going to have to suck it up and rent one, most likely from Disney. Last chance maybe trying the strollers available for purchase at the parks. I may do length of stay rentals for just a few days to start off with. Last year, we rented from them and ended up having 2 days left over at the end. Of course, they don't refund the money. Thanks so much though for your time.

I wouldn't say my Baby Jogger City Series double is very short. I'll see if I can dig out a picture for information purposes for the OP, but my kids are both 43" tall and have lots of extra head room in our jogger. Maybe that is short compared to regular strollers, I don't know, but it suits us really well. Good luck hunting!

We went with the Urban. It holds only 55 pounds and my son is 65 but we are going to try it anyway. I got it on clearance for 65 bucks.

You are very lucky then - your kids must be leg length. My kids havel long torsoes, so no can do for joggers as the head lengths are just too short - my daughter's head touched the top of each stroller we tried on our last jogging stroller outing - LOL! If you do any type of research on the Internet, you will see that this is a common problem for jogging strollers, especially with 3-4 year old kids.

I'm glad you were able to use a jogging stroller as they are very nice! We have one for our 12 month old, and he likes it a lot.

DD6, 52", 52lbs, uses at $15 Walmart umbrella stroller with a weight limit of 40 lbs. She can just get the shade to open up. To me, it looks like the same stroller they sell in the parks for $30.

We've used it for a bunch of trips. Nope, it's not super easy to steer. Impossible, if she leans forward. Yup, it's a bit too short for DH to push comfortably.

But the pricepoint was great, and when it got boosted 2 trips ago other than DH going ballistic and DD being sad it wasn't that much of a loss. (We found it, so I still have it.)

My dd(4) is 43 inches and 52 lbs, and we are using an umbrella stroller we've had since she was born. Actually I didn't think I would be able to jog with it, but the other night I took her walking and starting jogging along with it, I was surprised it worked so well. HTH

check craigslist.org

we use for my 4 year old, I think he is about 45 lbs?, a Graco stroller (older model), but I used the same stroller before and it will easily carry an 80 lb child.

Actually I fit in the stroller, as a seat of course.

The graco strollers have lousy reputations, but I'll tell you, you can't beat them for ease of pushing a heavier child.

In fact, I remember putting 2 kids in the stroller, 1 in the seat (6 years old at the time), and 1 on the hood while extended (also 6 years old). Worked fine.

try local craigslist.org for one of these strollers.

And actually I had a volo for my 4 year old, but I found it didn't push nearly as well with his weight than the old graco did. So I sold the volo and use the graco now.

I had the same problem. Plus we deal with certain health issues that require one and my one son is 7 but super tall and weighs around 70 ish pounds! Hes not heavy looking but tall and his brother is 60 pounds . So we had quite a issues.

I went to babysrus the other night and this is what I can tell you.

First of all we tested all the models we thought we could use because we wanted to be sure they would push ok. So we know for sure what will work and what wont.

I wanted a mac BUT I didnt see the one that took the larger weight in a double. So that was out. Couldnt find that online either.

If you are on a tight budget they have bright lime green and bright orange unbrella strollers with canopys that are only 20.00 a piece and my kids unbeliveably pushed very well in them! The good thing is you can fit through doors well and if you decided to you could always just bring one one day and so forth if you wanted to go light. Plus they fold up easy. The down side is it takes 2 seperate people to push them. But I really havent found a cheap-o umbrella stroller that I thought could push big kids. And they did great. Oh it also came with 2 bags that hung off the back for storage!

Okay for around 180 ish you can get a super nice jogging stroller by baby trend . Its a khaki green and orange color and has a speaker in the canopy to hook a mp3 player up to ( didnt care about that but the kids liked it) . It is much better than a regular jogging stroller because this one has a front swivel wheel. So it turns easily. Two huge baskets underneath . It also has a 2 cup holder and snack storage tray for the parents and two back pockets that are on the back of the seats for storage. The wheels of course allow for larger weight load . It states of course 100 pounds max but we managed to make it work for us.

I dont know how long you are staying ( might have missed that) but for us to rent for 10 days it would be around 300 and then we wouldnt have the use of it outside the park. So I saved around 100 and if I wanted to I could always sell it on ebay later for around that anyway. So its a great investment if you are going for more than a couple days.

If anyone wants to see pics of the jogging stroller lmk.

I hate to say this as it absolutely stinks that they raised the prices, but I recommend renting for kids that age. My nephew has Asperger's & is 7 now & still needs a stroller for his "home." We're going in November & will yet again rent one from Disney for him & his 4 year old brother. The main reason is how easily it pushes. And how his legs fit intead of hanging over the foot rest.

My sis just chalks it up to an added expense for having a wonderful & special boy. I wish they would give a discount for special needs kids. I have 3 little girls & we only need a stroller for one of them (the 16 month old) but I feel bad for all the parent's of older kids who have special needs that have to pay the outrageous amount.

I have the Quest and it does hold up to 55 pounds, not 65 pounds. I love it and Im sure that it would hold more weight than that. I dont think I would sink $40 each for 2 of the Disney Park strollers. They only hold up to 40 pounds at best. I would opt for 2 cheap Walmart umbrella strollers if you were going to get something down there. They arent the best, but should hold your two for a week and they would be much cheaper.

Here is a picture of the Baby Jogger City Series. It's the best I could find with my kids at age 5, 42/43" tall. The seats also recline quite far. For us, this was a great investment. I'm not sure about my kids having long legs and short torsos, but the jogger sure does work well for us. The front wheel is swivel and it pushes like a dream.
