Ok, here is my schedule. (I'm doing Atkins)
I have to be at work at 5am in the morning. So I get up around 4:15am and who in the heck is hungry at that time??
I bring a snack (pepperoni, a bit of cheese, or some celery) and will eat that my 6:30 usually.
Take my break at 8:30 and have the breakfast I prepared (normally scrambled egg wrapped up in ham)
Then lunch is about noon (tuna with mayo and sugar free jello)
I get home around 2:30 in the afternoon.....BUT
I'm tired....and I take an hour nap still when I get home. ( I am on my feet all day long...walking and standing respectively. )

Should I still be needing the nap??
Should I still be that tired??
I go to bed about 10pm.

btw....I've lost 5 pounds already :) :bounce:

I was exhausted just reading about your day!!!

Is this normal for you to be tired when you get home from work or is it since you started Atkins?

You are only getting 6 hours of sleep. You may need more.

I did notice an increase in my stamina since I started Atkins, but I have kept my same sleep habits.

Congrats on the weight loss!!;)

Good grief, Ven -

I second twk's opinion that you aren't getting enough sleep! I am also wondering if you are eating enough. You don't really mention portion size but maybe you really aren't eating enough protein. Also, the pepperoni and ham may contain nitrates - maybe you are having a reaction to that?

I would think that even one extra hour of sleep a night would make a difference. Can you try that? I read an article recently - I think on cnn.com - about how not sleeping enough affects the body. Its funny, it kind of acts like alcohol - impaired reaction time, faulty judgement and so on. I know lots of people survive on less but they say you really need to average 8 hours a night!

Ven...I have found that while on Atkins I have greater energy...more to play and workout with...but I have also found out that I sleep harder. Not longer necessarly but "better". I would think since you wake up sooo early in the AM, a nooner nap would be a good thing.

It has only been 5 days..that really isn't that long considering an internal clock. I would give it some time...see what happens. If you can find the time to incorporate some exercise into your busy day, that may help with making it through the day...but then you will be going to bed much eariler.

Oh well I DO eat dinner. (didn't put that in my original post)
I eat enough I'm sure (I keep tabs on fitday) (hamburgers, steak, chicken breast)
And I do "try" to head towards the bed at 9:00, but I just never seem to get there until 10:00....

I sleep in much later on the weekends....and I don't take that extra nap. I was just hoping that I would be able to nip it out with the 'extra-energy-atkins-gives-you-that-I've-yet-to-find' :p

And right now I am too tired to do any kind of extra exercise :(
I walk approximately 10,000 steps a day at work (my boss wears a walk-o-meter and I walk a bit more than she does)
and sometimes I walk the dog in the evening....but I need to do more....

Thanks, I will try to get to bed eariler and see what I can do to squeeze some bicycle time in there :)

Hi, there,

My DH is on Atkins with me, he loves it, but he still can't function w/o his nap every afternoon. If you need it, you need it! Sorry the extra energy wasn't enough to give you that extra awake time, but I'm guessing with your schedule, your body really does need that nap!

"Yawn" I love a nap with or without Atkins. We are all so different but I do suspect that with a little more time on this nutrition plan, you will find some extra energy.

Congrats on the 5lb loss. That's a great start.

I agree, nap if you need to. Your body knows whats best. :D
