This kinda stuff always seems to happen at the worst time!

It is no huge secret that the economy is in the toilet. Now it has really hit home. I got my layoff papers last Friday after 11 good years with the company. Now comes the fun of trying to find another job, keep up with bills and tuition and the such.

As you can see on my sig, we were palnning a great trip this year, and it has very special significance this time.

This is the one GREAT trip that we were taking as a family before I start clinical for nursing school in August. This is the most gruelling time in my whole schooling thus far. Also, my kids are getting a bit older, 8 and 11, and I was soooooo looking forward to this trip before the "teenage" years set in.

As it stands, we are still going to go, IF I can find another job and IF I can get the time off.

I've had a good job offer that was close to m last pay level, but it is only until April. I have also had a few offers with EMT companies, but the pay is about half of what I was making before. So some changes will be in order.

We will drive instead of fly
We will use some 2010 DVC points toward this trip
We will have to shave a day or two off of this trip

I am going to act a little irresponsible about this. I know that I should be more worried about other things besides a vacation. But as MOST people here know, WDW is not just a vacation, its an adventure and its where dreams come true. My logic is that things will be bad for a short time, but that is not enough reason for me to interfer with my families happiness. These are the things that great family memories are made of and, to me, it is more of an offense NOT to go.

To me, Disney is not just time away. It brings and keeps us closer together. It gives us a little hope in these times of increasing hardship. It is something to keep on the horizon and to keep looking forward to. It is something that brings great joy to my children, my wife, and myself.

Can anyone understand this? Or am I just a nut?:confused3

Just go, make memories with the kids while they are young and still believe in magic.;) While they still want to be with you. Soon all that will change, teenagers can be difficult.:scared1: All the other stuff tends to work itself out. Best of luck to you and Have a great time!!!!

TOTALLY Understand where you're coming from!!!!

Christmas is just around the corner - I'm in Sales and sales are a bit down...... We are in the middle of building a house (living in it while we build) and we probably could have all but finished the house with the money we spent on this trip!!! Yadda Yadda Yadda need I go on!!

But our kids are only little once! Family First!! I know mine won't remember the fact that they had to wait for the house to be finished just a little bit longer... but they will remember this trip!!!

We'll buckle down AFTER the trip!!

Good luck with the job hunt! I know the right job will come along for you!

I agree with corkery719...you only live once! Life is too short-and you seem to be a responsible person. (It unfortunately is the 16th anniversary of my brothers death-police officer 43 yrs old-too young :sad1: ) Jobs come & go-we get treated to great vacations sometimes & other times we cut back. You have tentative plans-go for it & enjoy yourselves!!!!:goodvibes

Totally understand.

Without saying too much, back in August things hit my parents pretty hard (neither lost a job, but bills got really tight) and had we not already booked our airfare, we wouldn't not be going next month.

DH and I have been living paycheck to paycheck the last 6 months just so we could go on this trip.
