Well, I think I have decided that we will skip Epcot for our trip at the end of August (Aug 28-Sept 2) as I don't know if my 8 year old daughter will enjoy it as much as MK, AK & DHS. Any opinions?!?

Anyways, this leaves me trying to choose what restaurants to go to - not much left for ADR.

Here are the parks I would like to visit:

Day 1 - MK
Day 2 - AK
Day 3 - DHS
Day 4 - MK

I would like to try Whispering Canyon - what park would be best for this day? How easy is it to get to this restaurant using Disney transportation? Also thinking of Cape May - again what park would work best? I may be able to get Crystal Palace reservations for one of our MK days. What about the AK day? I have checked out the Sanaa menu - not to our liking. Any other suggestions? We are staying at Pop Century, so eating there for TS is out of the question.

Thanks for all the help!

I think the best park for WCC is the MK. You'll just hop the boat over (I think, right?) We always took a boat to the WL but don't remember if we picked it up at the dock outside of MK, or CR????

I can't think of a way to make the other parks a better option, travel-wise.

Whispering Canyon is most convenient to MK.

Cape May is very convenient to Epcot World Showcase, next would be the Studios.

We like Yak n Yeti at AK for a table service.

I think you wanted an opinion on restaurants... but I just wanted to say that my kids always enjoyed Epcot... eating at the Garden grill revolving restaurant with the characters... spaceship earth... figment... the living seas (which now has a nemo ride)

and all of the countries... the mexican temple... germany...all of them..

We love Epcot!!:thumbsup2:love:

Wilderness Lodge is most convenient from Magic Kingdom - take the boat launch from MK.

Cape May would be most convenient on your Hollywood Studios day, but it's not really all that convenient...you have to leave the park, take a boat to the Beach Club dock (boat stops at other docks too) & then walk to the Beach Club...could take you as much as 30-40 minutes, depending on how quickly you get a boat and where you are in the park when it's time to leave. Anyway, To get to Cape May from DHS, take the boat from Hollywood Studios to Boardwalk area (Cape May is at Beach Club Resort, which is in the Boardwalk/Epcot resort area) You can also walk from DHS to Boardwalk area, but that will also take you probably 30 minutes at a good walking speed (and it's a lot of walking to add to a park day.) We would stay at DHS for our table service meal...we like Mama Melrose (Italian food) and we loved Sci Fi Dine-in, especially for lunch (burgers & shakes, yum.)

Sanaa is NOT at Animal Kingdom park...it's at Animal Kingdom Lodge which is not particularly convenient to the park - and keep in mind AK generally has shorter hours than other parks, so you really don't want to take extra time traveling out of your AK day to get to a restaurant elsewhere. To eat conveniently on your AK day, we like both Yak & Yeti (asian food) and Tusker House (buffet, with all the usual Disney buffet foods as well as a few Asian/African inspired dishes. But mostly regular 'merican foods.) If you check the lunch reservations, you may be able to snag the tickets for Nemo the Musical with a late lunch at Tusker House.

Other suggestions for Magic Kingdom days...hop the resort monorail from Magic Kingdom...try Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort (steaks, chicken, seafood...fabulous desserts) -OR- Grand Floridian Cafe at the Grand Floridian (also steaks, chicken, seafood and great desserts.) It's a nice way to take a break from the hot park, relax and see another resort. When you're done, hop the monorail back to the park. Takes some time, but it's convenient .

How about Boma at AKL on your AK day? My kids loved it (we ate both breakfast and dinner there during our last trip). There was quite a variety of African inspired menu items, plus more main-stream items for picky eaters and kids. Plus AKL is beautiful to walk around.

As far as Epcot- my kids love Epcot, especially Future World. Soarin', Nemo, the Living Seas, Living with the Land, Kim Possible, just to name a few. Plus great restaurants (both sit-down and CS) to choose from. We could easily spend three days there.

I agree that WCC is easiest to get to from MK- just take the boat across. It's a nice ride.

Whispering Canyon = Magic Kingdom. Just take the boat to Wilderness Lodge.

Cape May - Easiest would be Epcot. But since you're not going there, Hollywood is your next best bet. Take the boat.

Crystal Palace is great, try to go for breakfast!

For Animal Kingdom, Yak and Yeti and Tusker House are both fantastic! You can't go wrong with either one :thumbsup2

I'm going to go against the grain here and say do Whispering Canyon or Cape May on your AK day. Make an ADR for around 6:00 p.m. if you plan to stay all day at AK. Then take a bus from AK to Wilderness Lodge or Beach Club and you're there!

My kids have been visiting Epcot since they were 2 and love it. It really can be fun. Make it a game, first there is the Kim possible game you and family can do in Epcot WS, then they have the kid stops at each country. My plan when we take step son is to say ok we will do each country and you can have $5 in each country to pick what you want and that way he will go all through each country..

Dont forget there is also Test Track, Mission Space, Soarin, The Seas, Innoventions and the Coca Cola tasting room ( cant remember the name) Not to mention EP has several amazing restaurants..

We normally do AK in the morning have lunch and then go to DHS after lunch and finish the night off there with dinner.. TO us there is not enough in either park to spend the whole day..

Is this your first visit? I'm assuming you have free dining & have upgraded to regular dining. We loved Pop for our first family visit in April and we even loved eating at the food court. DS5 still talks about their chili dogs. My kids DS5 and DD10 loved Epcot and I heard them talking just yesterday about the dragon dance they saw there. DD loves to shop & bought a Duffy Bear and an umbrella from China and a Duffy outfit from Canada. So if your daughter likes shopping, she'll love Epcot!

If you go to Epcot, I would highly recommend Garden Grill. You're eating with Mickey, Pluto, Chip, & Dale and we thought the food was yummy.

If you haven't checked out www.easywdw.com 's free crowd calendar and recommended days, I would do that immediately. We had a fantastic trip during April spring break crowds by following recommended days (& making Rope Drop as much as possible).

What are you doing on arrival day & departure day? If you have a couple of hours to spend at a park each of those days, the extra days are only about $5 each. Here's what I'd do

Go to MK on arrival. Get oriented and see if you can get any rides in. At least check out the castle. We spent a lot of time staring at it and it's good to go ahead & get that out of the way so you're not wasting time doing that during early morning ride time. Depending on www.easywdw.com 's recommendations, I would switch around the days below (if needed) and include Epcot. Then I would spend time at MK on departure day- just to say goodbye.

Day 1 - MK I suggest having a late (10:30) breakfast at Crystal Palace this day if possible. It will serve as lunch and you can have a snack/light breakfast at Pop early before Park opening. Mickey Waffles kids meals at Pop are $5 for 2 waffles, bacon, applesauce, and milk. This was plenty of food for me & a great deal. I even gave my bacon to the kids and saved the applesauce for a snack later. Remember to save room for snacks. They're part of the fun. DS asked for popcorn repeatedly. I knew he wasn't hungry at all & kept putting him off thinking we'd get some later when he needed a snack. We didn't get it until we were leaving the MK the last day and I wish I had realized we were on vacation & it didn't hurt anything & wasn't expensive. We should have snacked more and worried a little less about staying on a meal schedule.
Day 2 - AK- I agree with the PP who suggested WCC for the evening after AK. It's the perfect time for an ADR! (You might want to try the HDDR- it's 2 TS credits but it's all you can eat chicken & ribs curte dinner show.)
Day 3 - DHS- Like Crystal Palace, you could do a late breakfast at Cape May- not sure how much you like breakfast! Not sure if you would find any availability for the Fantasmic! dining package but you could try that.
Day 4 - MK Like I said, I would switch this to Epcot and go to Garden Grill for dinner. If you want to stay for Illuminations, I'd take an afternoon break.

Don't try to cram in too much stuff. We were there 9 nights in April and certainly didn't do everything. Make a list of stuff you really want to do and focus on that. Anything else will be extra. Use FP like it's going out of style. Find some info on good FP strategy and make sure to get another one when your window is up.

We loved the food court at Pop. We came back for breaks in the middle of the day & ate at the food court. A large pepperoni pizza is $16- not too terribly bad. The buses are fast & efficient. I thought it was relaxing to just hop on a bus and have someone else do the driving & navigating. If the bus is too crowded & you don't want to stand (I don't) just wait for the next one. MK is the farthest park away at 20 minutes by bus. I hope your trip is as magical as mine.

Feel free to PM me if you want to ask me anything! I did tons of research for our trip because it kept getting put off for different reasons. I thought it would be our only trip but we wanted to go back before we even left!

I think doing MK twice is a good idea for an 8 year old :woohoo:

The first couple year we went, we always did MK twice. Kids love love love MK. We saved Epcot for a few visites later as a 'New' place to visit and it worked out to be a great plan

As for eating, we soon learned that travelling all over WDW to eat soon kills alot of time. Definatley, eat where you are or close to.

Crystal Palace would be great for one of your MK days.

Cape May for DHS day

What about Rainforest Cafe for your AK day?

Enjoy your trip

I totally agree with everything BlueJasmine said. Epcot has been our family fave. And there is tons of not-to-miss dining there. Biergarten...new pizza place called Via Napoli...Le Cellier. Tons of counter service as well. And very easy to shoot out and over to Beach Club for Cape May. You could do AK in the AM and leave there taking a bus right to Beach Club for dinner and then hop on into Epcot (make it an extra magic pm hours night). Or you could leave AK and go to MK for a second visit and leave the entire last day for Epcot.

MK - Whispering Canyon is just a boat ride away. Kona at the Polynesian is also worth checking out. If you want something in the park Crystal Palace is a good choice, as is Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch (their dinner menu is different and not as good IMO). Something we like to do on summer trips if we're only having one TS meal in a day is make the ADR for a late lunch seating. That way you've got park time in the cooler morning hours, and right around 2 when it is getting unbearable you sit down in an air conditioned restaurant for a bit of a break.

AK - Table service options are limited and going over to the Lodge for dinner after leaving the park can be a travel headache if you're relying on Disney transportation. My suggestion would be a late lunch seating at Yak & Yeti, for the break from the heat. Otherwise see if there is something that appeals to you at Downtown Disney or a monorail resort for after park closing because those are the easiest transportation-wise.

DHS - Sci-fi is fun for burgers & onion rings in a cool atmosphere. Cape May would be most convenient on this day but as someone else already noted it still isn't especially convenient; that is a long, slow boat ride to get over there, and depending on Studios' closing time transportation back to Pop might be a pain.

I agree with the others about changing that second MK day to Epcot. My older kids both loved Epcot at 8. Get a passport for her to have stamped in each country, do a couple Kim Possible missions, and plan to spend some time in the Seas pavilion. That's all perfect for a kid your DD's age. For dining, if you don't have a Japanese steakhouse in your area Teppan Edo is generally a hit with school-aged kids; my 9 & 13yos consider it a must-do.

Epcot is our DD8's favorite park! The dining options there, and the Epcot area resorts are endless!

I just had to post to tell you that I, too, thought my then 6,8, and 10 year olds would not like Epcot. We initially planned a half day there on our second trip to Disney, avoiding it all together on our first trip. I was soo wrong! My kids loved it. We now ride Spaceship Earth 2-4 times each time we go to the park. They love the area underneath with all its futuristic games. They cannot get enough of Innovations East and West. Soarin, Test track, Turtle Talk With Crush are all fantastic. My kids love working at Mission Control at Mission Space (which you can do without riding the motion sickness causing ride). Illuminations is also wonderful. We now spend at least 2 days at Epcot (but we usually go for for 8 in total).

My kids do not like AK. We have gone 2x. The last trip we did not go at all-- they elected to stay by the pool for the day. It is a lot of walking and, in comparison, not a huge amount of stuff to do. It is better than a zoo, but not as good as the rest of the parks IMHO. I do love the water rapids ride and the Lion King Show there, though. So if you go, make sure you do those.

Either way, you will have a fantastic time!

I couldn't agree more! My girls, age 8 and 5, loved epcot. We also found AK to be WAY too much walking as all the major attractions are so spread out (esp. in the August heat). So much more to do at Epcot, more places to cool off in the A/C, and so many restaurants that you should be able to find an ADR at a good one - I second the Teppan Edo idea and usually you can pick up a lunch ADR even this late in the game.

With that being said, I think my girls love Epcot because I love epcot. If you are more drawn to AK, then that is probably the park for you.

Either way, have a great trip.

My kids 10,10,4 love Epcot. I would go even if just for a half day. A trip to Disney without Test Track, Soarin and even Spaceship Earth would not be acceptable in my house.

I will add another vote for EPCOT. Our DS was 8 on our first visit and it has been his favorite park ever since! Soarin' alone is worth the trip for us! And the KidCot stations are fun, DS did them two years in a row. Trying to talk him into this year but at 15, its a no go!

As for restaurants outside of EPCOT, have you considered 'Ohana on a MK day? I know it is a very hard one to get but it is a lot of fun.

If you do decide on EPCOT, the atmosphere at Coral Reef is great. Teppen Edo is a fun hibachi place. We are trying Garden Grill for the first time this year so I can't comment on that. We also love Rose & Crown and Le Cellier (another near impossible one to get, I know). We are trying both Hacienda and Via Napoli this year as well so agian, can't comment on those.

Whatever you decide and whereever you eat, I am sure you will have a great time!

Epcot has always been my daughters favorite park. She loves the Kidcot stations and making a mask each time she goes. Soarin is probably her favorite ride in all of Disney.
