Just bought our direct flights from Milwaukee to Orlando, exact dates and time we wanted in Jan for $201.50 round trip per person:cool1:

Midwest only had one flight and it was almost $800:rotfl2:

Not sure how airtran does it but I'm not complaining:dancer:

You're lucky; our AirTran experience was a nightmare!!! Hope it works well for you.

I guess you have to determine what you consider to be cheap air fare...
Not so long ago, I could get SW for $59 each way from NE.

Dennis-

I am a little worried about Airtran. Their stocks were just downgraded to junk bond status (July 14th according to the Wall Street Journal) I bought tickets in May, $200 round Trip from San Diego to Orlando. I was wondering how they could do it when fuel prices are so high. Now I know, they are trying to raise capital by selling cheap tickets now, for future travel. The problem is, they may not be around by then. (They are esentailly mortgaging their future, to try to stay afloat now).

I found out on friday that my Itenerary was changed from a morning flight to a red eye. They dropped the morning flight to save money. (this is not a suprise since all the airlines are doing it) However, when they change your itenerary, they have to offer you a refund. I took it because I am worried they will go under before our January 09 trip.

I don't mean to rain on your parade. (I have been a loyal Airtran customer for the last 2 years) however, beware before making flights too far in advance. Your credit card company only protects you from bankrupcy if it is declared within 60 days of purchase.

I would try to find some trip Insurance right away, to cover you. (most policies will cover it if purchased within a few days of your tickets). Do it now!!!

Good luck!

We decided to change our January 2009 trip to Sept 2008 because of some $64 fares from Philly to MCO. SWA didn't release our January dates and we just didn't want to take a chance. I'm not complaining though...less time to wait!! So yes, there are still some decent airfares out there but one has to be extremely flexible with dates and travel times. I don't know how much longer it will last.

Hoping Airtran will still be an option for direct flight from Milwaukee, for May 2009 trip. Midwest announced yesterday that Orlando is now seasonal, and even then, only one flight/day instead of three:

Tampa will be the only Florida city we will serve on a year-round basis. Flights will be operated on Boeing 717 aircraft. We will continue nonstop service between Milwaukee and Orlando, but only seasonally. During the transition, we will suspend service Sept. 8 through Oct. 20, and then resume it Oct. 21, 2008 through April 30, 2009.

Fortunately, we are booked on the early flight they are keeping, for Nov and Dec 2008 trips. More info this week, hopefully.

:headache:

I just checked our "direct" flights for Nov from Midwest and now they have us going through Indy. Not only didn't they notify us but online it says your reservations were not made directly with us contact your travel agent if this is not correct:confused3 I made the reservations online at their site!!!!!!!!!

Edited - oops made this one through our corporate travel at work but still!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At this point I'd be happy to still have a flight that Midwest is actually flying. :goodvibes Mine is gone, nothing on Dec 14 nor 24th. I could leave 2 days earlier and come back on Christmas Day (which I'd consider if I could get a room on WDW property for Christmas Eve at a normal price--which I cannot).

Sat on hold over 2 hours yesterday to request my refund from Midwest. Then I gave up and went on with my day. Only get a busy signal so far this morning...

BTW, when we had a schedule change earlier this spring, they did notify us--about 2 months later!

Now I am trying to decide which airline to bet on--who will get me to Orlando this December. Airtran has a direct flight at decent times, Delta has a short layover in Atlanta that was a good price yesterday, still decent today.

Hubby is sick of all the drama and said we can just drive this year. (I think this would cause great marital stress, but we'll see...)

I hit the redial yesterday for about 2 hours before i got into Midwest and got my refund. I received no email on the change I just am one of those that checks the web site once a week to see if anything has changed. We just canceled our Nov trip because of this. :sad2:

Yeah so far the flight is not too bad, I just didn't see it coming. I looked at all options, and still beats any other options. We got our tickets for under $200 (including taxes etc) so no way are we going to find the times we got now anywhere else close to this price. If they change again to something horrible I will just drive down. Good thing is I DID get them through corp travel so much easier than going thru midwest.

I hope things work out for everyone else, it really does suck. I'm glad I got airtran for Jan flight. Yeah they could change things around and they are going through a rough time - but so is every other airline for the most part. Wose case scenario is I'm out $400 and to me the risk/reward is worth it!

Dennis-

I haven't paid less than $250 a ticket from Minneapolis to Orlando in six years. Granted, we will only take non-stop, and that generally means Northwest.

Finally got thru to Midwest, and I was wrong. Got bumped off one flight each trip, so I requested refunds. Was able to book direct flights with Airtran, and paid a total of $175 more. Worth it for last week of F&W, and DW's 50th birthday in Dec. Still no email notification of schedule changes from Midwest.

We got direct flights for $94 each way out of Logan in Sept. We were not planning on going but took the cheap flight. As a bonus the Red Sox are in Tampa.

Awesome.......we've been watching prices for both Logan and Hartford but have not pulled the trigger yet.......still not sure if we are going and air fare is still on the high side. Have fun!

94 is the best I have seen for Logan. We use logan or Providence (prefer Logan). Friends went in May and got 64 on SW.

Our round trip, non stop flights on SWA from Kansas City to MCO for travel on 12/05/08 & 12/13/08 ran $299 per person.

We got our cheapest fare so far for December - £745 from London to Orlando in Premium Economy :cool1:
