Still a go for our trip to CCV in 5 days . . . we may be really dumb!

I have to say kudos to Disney and DVC. Our points did not go into holding, and we were refunded for our After Hours tickets.
The more we're hearing today, the more convinced we are we made the right decision. Disney will always be there. Right now just trying to do our part to not expose ourselves unnecessarily.
That’s how we felt after cancelling. Sad but also relieved and feel we made the right decision.

My wife and I feel like this thing is now in the community - like the actual flu or colds. We understand that it is more dangerous than the flu and we aren't going to seek out chances to get sick, However, unless we just stay more than 6 feet away from everyone and self-quarantine how do you really prevent catching it. Put more simply, it does not seem that the illness is so dangerous that we should fundamentally change how we live our lives, unless you have some underlying health issue or advanced age.

Why isn't there a similar reaction to drunk and distracted driving (40,000 deaths annually and 2,000,000 permanent injuries), the sale and use of illegal drugs (65,000 annual opioid overdoses), or even smoking (480,000 deaths annually in U.S.)? Why do we (people, humans) behave like this?

I think the main difference with your examples is that those problems are spread evenly over the year but corona overwhelms the healthcare system over a few days. I saw this as nothing but media hype too but then I ran across this article from a Dr. in an Italian hospital that was quickly brought to the breaking point by the virus. And per CNBC yesterday, Italy has more Dr's and hospital beds per capita than the US so the same or worse will happen to many hospitals here.

I used to work in Radiology. I can't tell you the number of times I have had to don the gown and gloves for a patient on precautions for a spreadable disease only to see that same patient in the grocery store handling fruit a day or two later. Wash your hands (and your fruit).

We are going to keep our plan in place and we leave next Saturday. Naturally, if we come into contact or show signs of illness we will cancel and stay home (as I would hope any sane person would). But, we will continue to live our lives in the meantime.

I am a little concerned. We are going Easter week. I have RA and I do take immune suppressing drugs. Today is my last chance to cancel and not go into a holding account. I am so torn because I wouldn't cancel and wait it out if not for the holding account penalty. I called DVC yesterday to tell them my circumstances and the lady really didn't give me any options. We have a trip in August (not concerned about August) and I have a studio booked. I asked if I could use my points if I have to cancel due to health to get a larger room in August and she said no. :-( I really don't want to panic and cancel so soon but :-( not sure I have any options without that holding account penalty. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am hoping that the worst is over by mid april.

we are due to arrive april 3rd I do not want to cancel!! I am waiting until closer to see what happens and whether or not we are forced to cancel due to airlines? Our UY is June and our banking window was Jan 30. We have used 116 points for a AKV studio and do not want to lose those points that we paid our dues on and the money on our AP's that expire April 11th. I am just wishing this blows over soon and feel bad for those who have become ill over this virus.

I do think immunosupression would cause me to take the more cautious route. None of my family are in the at risk category, but I do think we would take a closer look if any of us were. It's a really tough decision. You might try to call again and see if you get a more favorable answer with someone else.

Given your RA and immune suppressing meds, I'm sure your care provider would strongly recommend cancelling the Easter trip. Much better to lose points than to risk getting the virus with your health situation. Talk to your Doctor.

Its funny I did talk to my doctor and she said that if she told me to cancel vacations for every virus she sees I wouldn't be able to leave the house :-( but this was about two weeks ago. Its so surreal because answers change on a daily basis. I am not going to lie I was hoping DVC wouldn't have taken such a strong stance against my case and simply allowed me to use the points in August if I have to cancel but I understand their need to open up a room. I just hate to react when we are a month ahead. :-( guess I will cancel it but argh..... was going to be a fun one :-)

Well, we decided to cancel as well. The fact that there will be no crowds for the NCAA tournaments made a huge impact on our decision. It doesn’t get anymore crowded than Disney, especially when they tell you to fill in all available space. I had to wait on hold for 40 minutes this morning but I was able to cancel and our points did not go into holding. Looks like there will a really big trip sometime next year! Stay healthy everyone and remember, wash your hands 😜

Our DD has Juvenile Arthritis and is on Remicade. We will probably not be going next week...

We are at GF right now. We arrived last night and it definitely feels different. We literally felt like we were the only ones walking around. You could see into the rooms and a good majority looked vacant. Now, that was at 1030p so I think the daytime will be a better gauge.

We also got upgraded to a better room.

If you decide to go, I would request a "deep cleaning" of my room
There is much information about protecting yourself at the parks, but nothing about the resorts.

I don't know who occupied my room before I arrived and there is too much uncertainty and misinformation in the media
Some reports say the virus can survive up to 9 days on plastic and stainless steel surfaces.

If I go, in addition to a "deep cleaning", I will disinfect everything and raise the room temperature to 90 degrees in an effort to kill what remains

If I were to have to cancel, would my points go into my 2020 UY? Seeing as my banking window already closed in Jan?
