I'm on day 7 our my 16-day-I-swear-I'm-going-to-stick-to-my-lower-carb-diet trip. I've lost 40 lbs since New Years, and am determined to be good on this vacation. So far, I've been proud of the choices I've been making. Sit-down restaurants have been very good about substituting veggies for starches and holding sweet or flour-thickened sauces. Even the counter service location have been very accommodating. Asking for changes and substitutions is not problem, even there. You even get a discount for the things they take off. The 1/2 chicken at Cosmic Ray's (double green beans, no mashed potatoes) is a very satisfying meal. A 1/3 lb burger, no bun no sides, at Pecos Bill's with a generous heaping of hot mushrooms, lettuce, and a few onions from the fixin's bar is also a meal that doesn't leave you feeling deprived.

I've also been eating a lot of salads. A LOT of salads.

Germany, Cape May Café, and Hollywood & Vine buffets all had great lower-carb selections.

So, to get to the title of this post. I've been doing good on the diet. Half way through our trip, and I haven't slipped up yet. I've allowed myself one indulgence during this trip, though. A free pass, if you will, for one dessert or treat before we leave. So which should it be?

I love the Doll Whip Pineapple Floats. This was always one of our stops when in the Magic Kingdom.

An ice cream sundae at either Beaches & Cream or Ghiradelli's would also be wonderful.

The strawberry shortcake at Beaches & Cream also sounds fabulous.

I also saw a caramel-covered rice crispy treat in Epcot's Germany that really caught my eye. (I love rice crispy treats!) The build-your-own rice crispy treats on Main Street are also calling to me.

One great choice would be the bananas foster bread pudding at 'ohana, but I don't think you can get just dessert there. (We're not planning on dining there.)

Given one dessert or treat on your entire WDW trip, what would it be?

Mickey Bar, hands down! It's not the most glamorous choice in the world, nor is it the most decadent, but there is nothing like biting the ear off from one of those lovely treats and enjoying every last bite!

White chocolate, cinnamon, caramel apple either at Magic Kingdom or DTD. They are the best ever!

Dark chocolate covered caramel at the place in Germany. According to their website, not bad carb-wise. Actually, I have a few of those when we go!

I don't plan on sticking to my diet while there... but, if I were only going to do one splurge it would probably be the butterfinger cupcake. It looks sinful. That however is a HUGE splurge. The rice crispie treat would be a much mellower splurge. I also love the Dole Whips... ;)

It's up to you! Pick your most favorite thing and enjoy, you deserve it, you've done so well :). I'm doing low carb now too although it's only been 2 weeks, I can't believe how easy it's been. Headed to Disneyland soon myself and although I don't plan on sticking to it I will watch myself and get back 100 percent when I'm home again. If I myself where going to chose though I think I'd have an ice cream sundae. Mmmm so good!!

I'm going be doing similar things but will allow myself a few more treats than just one. The nice thing is when you get used to not eating certain things, like potatoes and rice or bread, you don't always feel so great after eating them so you avoid them even on vacation. Glad to know it will be easy to do.

I would go for the bread pudding at 'Ohana. How can you resist? Not to mention all the meat would be perfect for a low carb diet! You should call and see if you can get an ADR. The bread pudding is calling your name!:yay:

I say split a butterfinger cupcake with someone, its amazing, and very filling, too much for one person to eat!!

That's certainly something that's been helping me. I know that if I go overboard, it's going to make my head spin, and I'll be lethargic for the next 3-4 hours. So far, the only thing that's slipped me up was a bowl of tomato soup that came with my shrimp salad sandwich (hold the bread) at Captain's Grille. It was a combo, and I got the tomato thinking it would be better than the clam chowder (which had potatoes). I knew I was stretching it with tomatoes, but thought I'd test my limits. I had about a 1/3 of it, then had to pass the rest across the table. I could feel it starting to make me dizzy. Sort of a built-in diet alarm.

I allowed myself a few splurges on my last trip. A red velvet cheesecake cupcake from Starring Rolls, a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich from Main Street Bakery, a chocolate dipped Rice Krispy treat from Goofy's Candy Company, and a No Way Jose sundae from Beaches & Cream. My two other favorites, which I skipped this time around, are Mickey Bars and a sundae from Ghirardelli in DTD.

It helped that I didn't eat any of those by myself. I split them with at least one, and usually two, other people, so that way I got enough to taste but didn't make myself sick or feel as if I'd gone overboard. And I didn't feel guilty sampling another treat the next day.

A butterfinger cupcake at DHS Starring Rolls or a PB & J shake at 50's PT (they might let you order one at the bar).

The chocolate & nut dipped frozen bananas from the carts is one of my favorites! That might be a healthier choice it takes just like ice cream.

I do low cards, I eat mostly veggies and protein, be careful, when you've stuck to it as long as you I'd be worry the effect it will have on your digestion... Your body is not use to the sugar high and crash. Your probably only gonna be able to tolerate very little.... I am a clean eater pretty much all year except holidays and birthday.... I still love carbs and I indulge in disney but before I leave I have to slowly reintroduce them back to my body, especially sweets and flour products.... Congrats on your weight lose, :thumbsup2

From a fellow dieter like you (I have lost 65 pounds since December 1st) I have to say....DON"T DO IT. I don't mean don't have your treat, but have a bite. Or two. My pick would be a brownie sundae from Beaches and Cream, but a few bites will be enough. Honestly more might really mess with you stomach if you are not used to eating like that. Plus, you probably will regret it later. Dieting is a slippery slope...sometimes one "treat" can be enough to pull you off your program. I will be there in Sept. and am so glad to hear about the tasty low carb options. Good luck and be proud of yourself. You are doing a great job!

As low-carbers ourselves, this was an issue that spawned debate in my house...

DH says Dole Whip hands down.
I am going with the Magic Cookie Bar at the POR.

We never finish them, but these are our "cheats"!
