I just noticed on Disney's web page that a 2 bedroom in BWV or BCV during the week in February that we usualy visit is $890.00 per night! Does anyone actually pay this room rate, or is the room rate always discounted? I'm shocked.
Since most of the rooms in DVC resorts are occupied by members, there are few 2 bedroom units available to rent via CRO for cash. I think it is possible to get a discount on 2 bedroom units, but I think it is rare. So yes, there are people who do pay rack rate (plus tax).
FWIW, I tried to get a discount (tried for the Birnbaum discount, DC discount and Members' Discount) on a 2 bedroom unit at VB on two separate occasions. I was unsuccessful both times - once in November of 2001 and once over President's Day weekend in 2002. We paid rack both times.
Those rack rates sure make me glad that we are a DVC members!
For our trip with another family after Thanksgiving this year we considered renting a 2 Br BWV unit thru CRO. The rate I was quoted (with a code I think) was about $525. So you can get discounts on cash ressies.
You are better off renting points if the room is available. This is what I am doing in September and it is coming out to $315.00 a night for a 2BR this is averaging with 4 nights coming on weekends. It could be as cheap as $220.00 per night just on week days. All this is depending what season you are going. My guess is you will save a lot of money just renting points. Good luck . Rich
My wife's aunt passed away in 1996, and she left our family some money. We visited OKW through AAA for my in-laws 50 yr anniversary in early 1997. This was our 1st week vacationin 21 yrs. We enjoyed our stay at OKW so much that my wife decided that this money would be best spent by purchasing DVC points to make it affordable to vacation on a much more regular basis. She has kept tract of the cost of the $ value vs. purchase cost since then and we have surpassed this investment. We are one of the many satisfied owners of DVC, that consider this a great value.
