Sticker Shock!

Hi everybody!

I just had sticker shock when I called the medical supply place I've used in the past to reserve my chair for our September trip. Last time I rented from them it was 25 for the first day and 5 a day additional. Now they're telling me that their prices went up, boy howdy did they! They said that it would be 90.00 for an 8 day rental. For a manual chair that seems a little steep to me!

Has anyone rented from Walker before? I haven't tried them but if the prices on their website are correct I could save 20.00 over the week renting from them. But as I have no experience with them I wonder how people like them.

If anyone can give me any suggestions or info I'd appreciate it. I would consider the Disney length of stay park rental but I really need the chair getting to and from the resort so that's really not an option for me.

Thanks!

Laren

Are you staying at a Disney resort? Disney resorts have a limited number of manual wheelchairs available for FREE for the length of your stay. You will need to leave an imprint of your Credit Card or authorize a room charge hold, but there is no charge as long as you return the chair in good condition. If possible, I would call them early on the morning of your arrival to see if one is available. If not, that may give you time to call Walker or another offsite firm to get one delivered.

I used to use Walker regularly before I moved down here and bought my own ECV. I have never heard of anyone having problems with them (other than the rare occurance of an ECV breaking down in a park but getting replaced quickly).

As Chuck said, if you are staying on property there is a good ppossibility of borrowing a wheelchair for your length of stay at no cost. However, the Resort chairs tend to be heavy and do not have adjustable legs, etc. If you rent from off-site you will probably get a better and lighter chair. Also, there is no guarantee they will have one for you, or that it would be the right size.

Thanks everybody! I was all set to go ahead and change my ressie but then the first place called me and said since I'm a repeat customer (I've worked with them on at least 3 prior trips) that they'd work with me on the pricing. They're taking good care of me. I didn't even ask- they just called me back after I said I needed to cancel to offer to work with me.

I will definitely keep Walker in mind as a back-up future option though!!! It's great to know there are at least two really good companies for this in the WDW area. If you depend on it like I do, you know what I mean!

Thanks again
Laren
