I just came off the "Official WDW" site to price 4 nights 5 days in WDW for DH and DD. I was shocked to see without airfare my price at CSR was just over 1900. For comparison purposes I compared a budget resort for the same time and found less than a 300 difference. Then went back and compared the original hotel at different times of the year and found no real advantage.

Last June we travelled to WDW and stayed 6 nights/7 days with airfaire at is was just over 2200. Same hotel and package options. What am I missing?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated as WDW would be the first leg of our trip 10 vacation and spending 2000 for the first 4 nights is not what I had planned.

4 nights for 1900 seems really high. Were park tix included by chance? What resort was the price quote for and what resort did you stay at last year?

We stayed at Coranado Springs last year. Yes, I checked the magic package with base dining as I did last year. The base room rate should be roughly $145 per night but the base package price does not reflect that. I thought about going to some of the discount sites but I am leary.

What date are you traveling, what type of tickets did the online site give you? I have noticed that it tries to give the most expensive ticket, ex: one day MYW park hopping ...water parks. Did it do this or make it a 5 day ticket, when you are staying 4. Do you need park hopping and water parks? Did you book the Dining Plan, did it have the right age for your DD? Other than that, maybe call Central Reservations. Check Mousesavers.com and see if there are any codes out, that you qualify for. If there is an Annual Pass discount and I don't know that there is, it may be worth buying it to get the room discount. After all of this, there is always the AAA discount on the room with tickets and dining, if Disney is not offering anything. You can book it through Disney, but you will need a AAA card at check in.

We plan on arriving on the 26th of June but we are flexible. I thought of using the AAA discount as well. I did take the water parks off as my DD is just turning 6 and I fear she is not ready for the water park yet (a bit over protective I know). I chose the base dining plan but someone a couple of months ago told me that the price went up but I can't imagine it went up that much to equate to roughly a 20% increase in one year.

I will call Central Reservations to see if I am quoted a different price. At the moment I am checking offsite but that is really not what I want to do. My husband and I really enjoyed CSR last year and whole ambiance of staying on site, the convenience of the bus and the entire Disney dream.

Thanks to all for answering my call for help! I will make the call tomorrow and see if I am quoted a different price....

Ok A quick lesson in "seasons" is due here..

145 is the LOWEST possible rate at CSR. 175 is the rate you would pay in June.

During Value Season.. You would pay the lower of the two rates. This would save you about 150$ over what you're seeing now. But June is NOT value season.

For more on rates and seasons.. see here..

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates-2007.htm

Also.. thru whom did you book your package last year and at what resort did you stay? Did you have a discount code or offer you received in the mail?

If you were at a value resort.. 2200 with airfare could be just about right -- depending on where you live.

The dining plan went up $1.00 per adult per day and no increase for the child. It is $38.99 per adult per day, $10.99 per child (3-9) per day. It includes tax and tip.

Another note about the seasons ~~ the mods and values have added what they call a "summer season" this year, which encompasses all of June, July and a bit of August. It runs May 24th through August 4th. Before this was just part of regular season. Summer season has been priced higher. We noticed the higher prices at the mods this year too when we were pricing out our yearly summer trip.

The deluxe resorts go into their "value season" after July 8th, and you can get a good deal then on a deluxe. Their value season is July 8th through October 3rd.

That price sounds right to me.

4 nights standard view CS $787.50
4 nights dining plan $355.88(do I need to add tax?)
5 day park hoppers $762.55
Total $1905.93

Well....I think it makes sense after reading Allison's reply. I did stay at CSR last year but did go earlier in June before the kids got out of school.

Well..I will have to have to make hte decison to either spend it or not. Just seems like a lot for 4 nights but the numbers add up. I am going to look around Buena Vista but I really was spoiled last time so I think I will just pay it and then enjoy it.

Thanks so much for all of the responses. I appreciate it.

Why not try a value resort? That would save you some money! Also, if your children are young like ours our (5 and 7) then they would love the theming of the value resorts. :goodvibes

You could rent points from a DVC member and stay @ OKW for as low as $600 (based on $10/pt), it averages out to $150/night (all inclusive)...it would be even less if your 4 nights started on Monday instead of Tuesday and you avoided a Friday night stay ($440 = $110/night). The member you rent from can add DDP and you pay for it when you check-in. You could purchase your park tickets wherever you find the best deal.
