Steve Jobs poaches part of Miramax from Disney

Jobs is making a film company with the two Miramax brothers. Shock and horror.

It comes as no surprise that the Weinsteins are less than satified with their Disney relationship. It's interesing that they're forming a *new* company rather than muck about trying to extricate Miramax from Diseny.

Has there been any further information since the June 15th Times article?

Obviously the Weinsteins didn't end up buying MGM - and perhaps the rest of the story has also mutated since then?

I don't know if these guys are still negotiating.

Jobs was reported to be returning back to the company late last month - while The Bros. may be leaning more toward a resign at this point, now that Eisner has announced he's leaving and MGM has slipped away.

From the more recent rumours I've spotted mainly around Apple sites it appears that Jobs at least is still on course for a new company which would be used in place of Disney in regards to his animation company Pixar. The brothers, as far as I know, are still in talks with him but seemingly in a less hopeful climate; Jobs likes going things alone.

The Incredibles is due out soon and from early screenings is set to be another six [nb. cricket term, similar to 'home run' in northern american baseball] - a little weak at times but perpetually amusing, especially for the mature audience; it is also a nice and professional attempt to break free from the generic nu-Disney concept of lost-person-quest-moral-at-end by all accounts. After this there is only "Cars" for Disney - after that Pixar will need another entity to deal with and Jobs is in no hurry to replace Disney.

Maybe he doesn't need to be.
