Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

Barbara always does seem to get the "big" ones as far as interviews go, but personally, she gives me a pain... I too did not find her sympathetic acting at all....sure she did the "there, there" a couple times, but I just found her rather grating and insincere. Not that an interviewer should sit there and cry buckets, but at least seem somewhat sincere and caring. I just find her rather cold. I could see Elizabeth Vargas doing a better job and showing some emotion. I do think it is just another interview to her and something to add to her credentials of famous people to have interviewed.

Terri was wonderful, and I really see her going on to do wonderful things, to be FUN to her children, a great mom and protectress of the zoo and to see it grow also in Steve's memory. Those kids are lucky to have had him as a Dad and to have Terri to help them move on. What adorable kiddoes too, and so smart, just too darn cute. I imagine they will be famous in their own right as they grow, and I would never see Terri let them be exploited in any way, shape or form.....only what THEY want to do, and when they are ready to. I really think Bindi is a special little girl and she is her Dad's girl and will carry on his traditions.

I just watched the youtube one and like that better than the BW too. I never liked Barbara Walters at all before I saw her on the View and I still don't like her interviews. Her attempts to appear sympathetic seem to be an act to me and she makes everything much too dramatic. The interviews are about her as much as they are the interview subject. And why must every interview show her walking with the person being interviewed?

The focus was clearly on Terri in the Australian interview. Ray Martin did not try to dominate the interview and there was more real information than in the BW version. I thought Ray Martin seemed sympathetic, but genuinely sympathetic.

I totally agree with you Disney Ella I got so much more info from that interview then with BW. I esp. though when he brought her out to see all the well wishes and tributes outside was very touching, and I think it was good for her.

Terri was so sincere and articulate, conveyed so clearly exactly what she wanted to, I think you could have cut BW right out of the picture and it wouldn't have mattered one bit.

I don't know if this makes sense but I thought it was incredibly unselfish of her to do the interview, like it was a gift to Steve, wildlife and to us. I wanted to thank her for being so generous.

Her strength astounded me, and what a fantastic mom! It was hard to watch, but I'm glad I did.

I know that losing your soulmate is a lot different than losing a parent. When my Mom died (unexpectedly) 9 days after I had my 2nd child I learned that you can't let your grief and sorrow overcome and consume you. Your children are dependent on you and that to me was bigger than my grief. I kind of got that feeling from Terri. She said she wanted to just wanted to lay on the floor of the plane and cry on her way home but Robert wanted to play, so she played. Thank God those kids have her to get them through this and thank God she has them to get her through. Her interviews felt almost like she was trying to help all of us get through this and for that I thank her and know she has the strength to get through this.
I hope that made sense. Amy

Nutsy, No she didn't say why she was in Tassie. From what I got out of it, she was travelling and did not have access or a good signal for a phone.
I could have sworn Terri mentioned she was doing some "work" or "research" there ? Maybe I heard wrong.

And Nutsy.....no worries about how you feel about B Walters. I'm no fan of hers and I agree with you and many others here, she was not the most sympathetic/empathetic interviewer. The whole set seemed like she wanted to "stage" herself with some of the animals. It's like she was there on another agenda (to get THE interview).....she didn't really seem to "get" Steve and Terri's vision and how they lived and what they believed in. I was annoyed that she brought up the "Bob incident" in this interview. That topic has been hashed and rehashed in the media. Enough already. I don't think Terri needed to address that again. There were so many other things she could have talked to Terri about without wasting 3-4 min on that.

Yeah she was.. but the whole idea of going was that there wasn't enough room on Croc one for all of them and with Emma turning 30 she decided it would be a good reason to go to Tassie.. She (Terri) is very interested in the Tassie Devils and was doing reserach regarding them.

Oh go ahead and put her down, she makes me crazy. She is famous for trying to make people cry and, horrible as this sounds, I'll bet she was crazy excited over this interview.

Had Terri not done the Austrailian interview as well, I'd be fuming over Barbara. It seemed wrong and way too soon to be talking to this woman at all. She was like one big opened wound and I was almost embarassed to be watching. It felt like peeking in on someone at a time when they should be alone. Just a feeling I had, although I - and my boys - were moved to tears as well.
ITA ::yes::
I wish Barbara put that huge python around her shoulders at the end. Yah know, the one she made an ignorant reference to? That would have at least made he look a little empathetic. But instead Barbara was stone cold as usual.

Oh and earlier Nutsy asked about why Barbara Walters and not osmeone like Jay Leno.
I've never know Leno to travel for an interview. His show is filmed and shown on the same night, 5 nights a week. He only takes a couple of weeks off a yr.
BW is well known here in the US. Gosh she has been around for 35 yrs or more I would say. In the last 20 yrs or so, she has really become known for her 1 on 1 interviews with people who rarely give such interviews.

I would not suprised if Leno books (or tries to book) Terri the next time she is in the States.
I wasn't trying to put Barbara Walters down when I mentioned Jay Leno.. I don't know the first thing about her or a lot of American tv stars. The only reaon I mentioned Jay Leno was that I knew Steve had been on his show and he came across as a kind of fun guy. It was that, that led me to think he would be a good person to interview her. It would lighten the mood and Terri would be able to smile a bit.

As for whether or not Barbara Walters is highly respected in the US or not... doesn't bother me one iota. However, after seeing bits of her interview.. the vibes etc didn't seem be to genuinely sympathic from her. Not saying anyone else was any better or worse.. just that, that was how she came across. She can be as highly respected as she wants to be... but when all is said and done in a situation like this (not the norm).. then you really do need to tread carefully and by very sympathic.

Like I say.. it was just how she seemed to come across... who knows how she really felt about it all, if it was all about getting the scoop or not.

I would also think Terri would go on Larry King eventually.

P.S. I finally got to see the Australian interview on youtube.com

Hey Nutsy.....
I really appreciate all you've let us in on and how much info you've given us about the Irwins. I've been following this thread since day one and wanted to voice my feelings and vent here. I used to watch Steve all the time before kids, 6 years ago, and followed he and Terri's story all along. I was excited at the birth of their daughter and son and always dreamed of going to Australia to meet them one day at the zoo. I thought Steve was nuts, but hysterical all at the same time. I loved his enthusiasm and his accent and enjoyed watching him get bit on the nose by a snake. He was just fun to watch. He always smiled and when he cried over his Croc Mary I cried with him. He was a genuine man. I have to admit that the day of his accident when I logged on to the internet i was completely shocked at his death and to this day am still in disbelief. I can't come to terms with the fact that I will never see him in action again. I think about his death and Terri and the kids constantly as if It were me going thru this. Thank God it is not me but I can't even imagine what Terri will go thru for the rest of her life. I couldn't watch the memorial or her interview without bawling. I am sooooo shocked and sorry for her, the kids, John, Bob Sr, Wes, and everyone else who was part of Steve's life. I will truly miss him and will remember him always.
Thanks for listening.

It's weird seeing him not in khaki!!! The interview the other night showed him on Jay Leno wearing just a regular shirt and jeans... he didn't look like himself at all!

But, yeah, that's a great picture.

Anyone read this.... esp the bit about going for No.3.. This story was done last month too..

I actually wondered if Terri might already be pregnant and that was before I read this.. but nothing has been said and I really think she would struggle with the pregnancy now that her "rock" has goine. So sad.

Did Terri say anything about Bob wishing he could get sick so he could go to heaven to be with his Daddy in the Walters Interview?
