Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

Hey Nutsy!

Silly question here maybe. So if the memorial service is live next Wednesday Australia time, would that be tuesday here in the US? Aren't you guys something like 14-16 hours ahead. I'm here in Northwest FL on central time.

Steve was my soul mate, says Terri Irwin

Steve Irwin's heartbroken widow has told of losing her soul mate, as plans were announced for a public memorial service at the Crocodile Hunter's wildlife park.

Terri Irwin was due to hold a news conference outside Australia Zoo on Wednesday to announce details of the service for her husband, but was too upset and released a statement instead.

At the news conference, Steve Irwin's father, Bob Irwin, read the statement from Terri in which she thanked the public for their "overwhelming outpouring of love, support and prayers for my family".

She referred to husband as her "soul mate" and "wildlife warrior".

Mrs Irwin has remained in seclusion with her children Bindi, eight, and two-year-old Bob, since Irwin's death from a stingray barb to the chest in an incident on the Great Barrier Reef on September 4.

Steve Irwin's business manager, John Stainton, said Mrs Irwin had wanted to address the public but was still struggling too much with her grief to speak.

But he said she and Bindi would address the memorial service to be held at the 5,500-seat Crocoseum at Australia Zoo, north of Brisbane, at 9am next Wednesday.

Australia Zoo and Ticketek at Brisbane and Maroochydore, on the Sunshine Coast, will distribute 3,000 free tickets to the memorial from 9am on Friday.

Mrs Irwin said in the statement she knew larger Brisbane venues, such as Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, had been earmarked for the service.

"However, it is my wish that the memorial service be held here in the Crocoseum at Australia Zoo which is where Steve would have wanted it," she said.

"I cannot see how a memorial service for Steve would work in any other place other than the Crocoseum which he built here at the zoo and of which he was so proud.

"I would therefore ask that everyone please bear with me in this wish and help me to make this happen."

She understood many people would not be able to attend, so the family would work with local and state governments to supply large TV screens at venues at Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

And the service would be broadcast on television live through the ABC to Australia, Asia and the US.

Mr Stainton said it would be a tribute to Irwin's life, from the boy to the man, with guests sharing their memories of him.

He said John Williamson would perform Irwin's favourite song, True Blue, but the memorial would not be an "elaborate variety show".

"It's more a tribute to his life and a celebration of what Steve was about," he said.

"We're going to try to cover as many facets of his whole entire life from when he was a little boy to when he left us."

Mr Stainton had said earlier that tickets could be reserved by making a donation to Steve Irwin's charity, Wildlife Warriors.

But he later said Australia Zoo and Ticketek at Brisbane and Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast will distribute 3,000 free tickets to the memorial from this Friday.

I am going to subscribe to this thread now. I have been following off and on for a few days. I want to keep updated about the service because I hope to watch it..........or if it is too late on the east coast at least DVR it.

It's going to be 9am here.. so take off 15/16 hrs, that should make it 4/5pm for you I think. That's if my maths is correct:goodvibes

Thanks Nutsy ! Now I have to try and find which channel it will broadcast on.

I never thought of that. Wonder if it will be advertised before hand over there.

Yup, Tuesday for you guys:)

I wonder if it will be shown on Animal Planet & Discovery Channels or regular abc, cbs, nbc channels. We will be @ WDW next week, I'll have to figure out a way to watch it since I can't get our vcr to tape.

Welcome. :goodvibes

I don't have cable at home, so I watch tv at my job. We're supposed to keep the channels on sports, news and weather, but here lately we've also been keeping one or two of the tvs on the animal planet. I see Steve and just get saddened for a minute. I didn't watch his shows much but when I did....wow. :sad1:
He, like he said about the animals he was adventuring, was an amazing creature!

If anyone on the East Coast here in the USA finds out what channel and time please post here. I'd like to set my VCR as we will be at Disney next week.
Thanks soooooo much!!
I definitely DO NOT want to miss the Memorial service!!!!

Thanks Nutsy for all the info. I will probably avoid watching the memorial service. I don't think I can handle seeing Bindi speak...what an incredible little girl.

I was just wondering if anyone remembers seeing an episode where they showed Terri and Steve meet for the first time....She was visiting the zoo and I think her friend video taped her going up to meet him and he gave her a big kiss on the cheek, maybe I'm wrong and it wasn't the first time they met, but they seemed perfect for each other, love at first sight. So sad.

Nope Snoopymom your right. They both said it was love at first site.

Thank you Nutsy for keeping us informed. I went to the ABC website, but they didn't have anything up yet.

I thought I missed it. Thank you so much Nutsy for posting all the information. The news over here only gives us bits and pieces.

My son is in cub scouts and the theme for this month is Zoo Adventures. At the end of the month we have our pack meeting and we are doing a tribute to Steve.

We meet on Tuesdays at 6:45 every week for our den meetings. I think next week we are going to have to miss the meeting unless the memorial service is on early.

You're welcome guys... PenskeSth1, I hate to say but I really can't see the memorial service being on early as it's set for 9am here, if anything I would think it would be late, as by the time everyone gets there with the traffic etc.. it could be after 9 by the time they get under way.

So nice that your sons cub scouts are doing a Tribute to Steve too. The school where hubby and I volunteer had a free dress day today (they were unifroms here) and it was a gold coin donation ($1 or $2 coin) and all proceeds were to going to the Wildlife Warriors.
