Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

I feel so bad for Steve's family...he seemed to be a truly great man. It's so touching to see how much he loved his family and how proud he was of them.
One of my favorite episodes is "Steve's Story" in which he explains how he and Terri met and then later the birth of Bindi.

I never realized how passionate he and Terri were about wildlife conservation. It's really amazing how much he cared for animals, especially crocodiles. Steve seemed so genuine on TV and I think that made him very appealing to television audiences. Even though he's gone, his loving, caring spirit lives on.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Irwin family and their friends. God bless them all!

I haven't been to this thread in a couple of days. Sorry. I know that it has been posted, but I can't remember the exact details. I am in NC, east coast. What time and channel is the memorial this evening??? I want to set my DVR.
Thanks!
Also, thank you to everyone that has posted and given all of the great articles and information!!!!!!!

I am standing on my soap box clapping a huge THANK YOU to Nutsy for all the hard work she has done for this thread.

As someone who has been flamed to the core from the DIS I think I can understand how Nutsy feels. You say your not flamming but reading these posts I was cringing for poor Nutsy.

Since May this thread has been the only one I have posted on. Because it was Steve and I loved this guy, I felt I needed to let go of my posting fears and express my sorrow.

I have been hear reading posts and in fact wrote a few people who have been flammed. I gues I have become the "Flame Department" clean up crew. Having gone threw what I went threw I knew how they felt. Just like I know how NUtsy feels.

It should be playing at 9pm on animal planet.

I wish now I'd not posted any news on here at all and I think next time something big happens over here I'll keep right out of ita and let you find your own source of info. cos it sure won't be coming from me.
Nutsy,
I'm sorry you feel this way. I know alot of us really appreciate all the info and updates you posted. I just think there is so much emotion and passion when it comes to Steve Irwin and his sudden passing, that some people are getting more upset then they normally would. Please try and take it with a grain of salt and hang in there with us.

but... this is not just about Terri it's about the effect what is happening tomorow morning is going to have on those who live in the area. Being asked to stay off the road, find an alternate route... well that's not always an easy thing to do.... not if you know where some of these folk live.

Hmmmm...When I lived in NYC, I remember MANY times it was impossible getting through the streets because the President was in town. We were asked to find alternate routes, not be on certian streets, streets would be closed, etc. Stuff happens...Life goes on.

Since moving here, I have had to find alternate routes for weeks at a time because of road construction & work. Yep, it has been VERY inconvient to have to go 20 minutes out of my way, every day for weeks because of road work. But what am I going to do about it? I find a different route.

Nutsy said:
But anyway.... go ahead and flame me again.... I'm past caring anymore...you can think what you want and say what you want.. you can curse and swear and call me all sorts of colourful names.. I really dont' care anymore.

That's what you get for being honest these days.

Huh? Did I miss something? I dont remember seeing any cursing or swearing, no name calling, nothing. Just people saying why they think Terri is doing the right thing.

So, how would you feel in my position then? You probably can't answer that as you're probably never likely to be.

What position is that? I am also a fan who cant go to his memorial. So I will watch it on tv. How is that different?

Nutsy said:
there is going to be at least 3 tv stations there with their crews, plus the 3,000 public who are allowed to attend and have be inside and seated by 8.30am or they miss out. So, if they are held up in traffic getting there and have been on the road for an hour or more.. it's just too bad for them.. they have to turn around and go home.

Ok...And even starts at 9:00am. They are closing the doors at 8:30am. That is pretty common when there are events places. If you are not in your seats by the time the doors close, you miss out. There is nothing unusual about this at all. I see absolutly nothing wrong with people having to be in their seats by a certain time. There is no reason for anyone to be annoyed by this. If you are late, entering would disrupt the people around you, as well as possibly the service. I bet the people who were there on time would be pretty upset if someone came in & disrupted everything while they were trying to watch the memorial & say goodbye to Steve themselves. I cant understand being upset because you have to be at an event at a certain time. Isn't that why things from movies, to concerts, to meetings to memorials, start at at certain time? Otherwise why have a schedule at all?

Terri wants tributes in service

STEVE Irwin's widow Terri has thanked supporters and requested that many of the tributes sent to Australia Zoo be part of tomorrow's public memorial service so those who missed out on attending can be there "in spirit".

Thousands of floral and written tributes to the Crocodile Hunter have been placed outside the Sunshine Coast zoo since Mr Irwin's tragic death on September 4.

Mrs Irwin tonight requested some of the flowers and messages of support be brought inside the zoo for the service which will start at 9am (AEST) tomorrow.

"Terri Irwin has requested for tomorrow's memorial service many of the floral tributes and messages from Steve's loyal supporters be brought into the Crocoseum to form part of the memorial tribute," a statement from Australia Zoo said.

"With this gesture she is hoping some of the well-wishers who have paid their respects to Steve outside Australia Zoo will be a part of the ceremony in spirit."

About 5000 people will attend the service.

Only 3000 tickets to the service were made available to the public last Friday.

They were snapped up in 15 minutes, leaving many upset and frustrated.

The service, set to be a celebration of the wildlife warrior's adventurous life, will be broadcast live around the world.

Up to 300 million people worldwide are expected to tune in.

The memorial will be televised nationwide by the ABC and the Nine and Seven networks.

Mr Irwin's manager and long-time friend John Stainton said an empty seat would be left beside Mrs Irwin and their children Bindi, eight, and Bob, two, at the service.

It was uncertain tonight whether Terri, Bindi or Steve's father Bob would speak at the ceremony.

Guests will include Prime Minister John Howard and Queensland Premier Peter Beattie.

You ain't kidding! :sad1: :guilty: My tears are flowing!

Oh no-- now I'm afraid to watch it.

I guess I will settle onto the couch with a box of kleenex tonight to watch the memorial. I know it will be tremendously sad. :guilty:

I just saw on "The View" that Barbara Waters is going to Australia to interview Terri. They will be having a special on next Wednesday evening (the 27th).

Millions will watch Irwin service

A SINGLE, empty seat amid the more than 5500 fans, friends and family cramming the Australia Zoo Crocoseum at Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast this morning will be Terri Irwin's poignant tribute to her Crocodile Hunter husband.

As the crowd fills the zoo's crocodile show stadium for Steve Irwin's memorial - expected to be watched live on television around the world by up to 300 million people - the seat next to Terri will be marked with the wildlife warrior's favourite Australia Zoo cap.

Best friend and business manager John Stainton said yesterday during final preparations for the service that the vacant seat was the "one little thing" for which he had asked "and that Terri wanted".

"His cap, his Australia Zoo cap that he always sat and wore watching all the shows with his daughter (Bindi will be on) that seat, which will stay vacant throughout the memorial."

Mr Stainton said no one knew if Terri or Bindi, 8, would be capable of addressing the service, which is scheduled to begin at 9am (AEST).

"It'll be sad, it'll be sad," he said.

"Everyone has said they could do something, but I think on the day when it starts and rolls out that the family may have a problem with it because there's emotions there they haven't seen for a while and I've left it as an open invitation for Terri and Steve's Dad Bob and Bindi to say a few words, so it's up to them."

While there are expected to be numerous VIPs and celebrities, including Prime Minister John Howard and Queensland Premier Peter Beattie, Mr Stainton said he could not reveal ahead of time who would be making tributes.

The one thing he hoped everyone would take away from the memorial was an appreciation of Irwin's diverse character.

Mr Stainton said preparing Irwin's memorial, while still haunted by the vision of his best friend dying in his arms from a stingray barb to the heart just over two weeks ago, was "probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life".

Sunshine Coast police district inspector Darryl White said police were asking service attendees to arrive early and be seated by 9am, or they would not be permitted to enter the stadium.

Walters to interview Terri, Bindi
From correspondents in Los Angeles
September 20, 2006 05:54am

AMERICAN news queen Barbara Walters has scored an exclusive TV interview with Terri and Bindi Irwin.

Walters will fly to Australia tomorrow for a sit down interview with Steve Irwin's wife and eight-year-old daughter for a one-hour special to be aired on America's ABC TV network next week.

Walters, 74, said Irwin's son, Bob, two, would not take part.

"I'm going to go to Brisbane, Australia, to do an interview with Terri Irwin and with their little girl, Bindi," Walters announced today.

"The little boy is too young."

The interview is a worldwide coup for Walters and America's ABC TV network following the freak September 4 stingray death of Irwin on the Great Barrier Reef.

"His wife has not talked to anyone about this," Walters said.

Walters said topics she would discuss with Terri include what her relationship was like with her husband and how she was told of his death.

"It's an assignment I'm absolutely thrilled to have," Walters said.

"I think people want to know more about him.

"It was a tragic case."

The one-hour special will be aired in the US next Wednesday (September 27) and should reap huge ratings for ABC as Irwin, through his Crocodile Hunter documentaries, was a much-loved TV star in America.

Walters announced she had scored the exclusive interview today on her morning TV talkshow in the US, The View.

Crowds gather for Irwin service
September 20, 2006 07:15am

HUNDREDS of people are gathering outside Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast for today's memorial service to crocodile hunter Steve Irwin.

The ceremony will be attended by about 5000 people, including Premier Peter Beattie.

Queensland Rail said it has extra train services between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast to handle the crowds.

A QR spokesman said those with tickets to the service will be able to travel free on the train and the bus shuttle to the zoo at Beewah.

Mr Irwin was killed in a freak accident more than two weeks ago when he was speared in the chest by a stingray barb while making a documentary off north Queensland.

His widow Terri yesterday requested many of the floral and other tributes sent to Australia Zoo be brought inside for today's service so those who missed out on attending could be there "in spirit".

Any chance that somebody with a VCR might tape it and be willing to send it to me? I'll pay for the expense of the tape and the shipping.

No TiVo, Dish, cable or satelite here ... just 8 local channels, 9 on a clear day, and to the best of my knowledge it isn't being aired on any of them.

Please?

Belle, I sent you a PM about taping the memorial for you. :)

Something new:
THOUSANDS of fans have joined VIPs at Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo for today's emotional memorial service to the Crocodile Hunter.

It is still unclear whether Irwin's wife Terri and daughter Bindi, eight, will be strong enough to speak at the tribute, beamed live to hundreds of thousands of fans across Australia and around the world.

But dignatories including Prime Minister John Howard and Queensland Premier Peter Beattie have arrived and may pay their own tributes.

A single, empty seat has been left in the zoo's Crocoseum in memory of the much-loved environmnetalist and TV star.

It has been marked with the wildlife warrior's favourite Australia Zoo cap.
