A couple of weeks ago I asked if anyone had been successful at steaming the foam cushions inside the sofa seat covers back into shape. I had been told that it works. At the time I didn't want to spend $100 to find out. Today, Kohl's had their small 1000 watt steamer on sale for $28. I brought it home and gave it a try. I can't believe the difference it made. While the sofa covers were drying on the line, I steamed the foam back into shape. The foam is covered by batting that is glued to itself at the sides and over that, a cotton cover. I opened the seam on the cover and removed it. Then I cut the batting on two sides at right angles to each other so it would be easy to replace. It takes about 20 minutes on each foam piece to pop it back into shape again but the difference in a finished piece and an unfinished piece is amazing. It looks more than half way decent for a family room sofa that we use every day for 11 years. Its a comfortable sectional and I don't feel the need to replace it anytime soon. The cushions are very clean and so I need to shampoo the rest of it but that can be done on another day. It sure beats paying $40 per foam piece times 6 to rejuvenate a saggy looking sofa. The foundation, springs, etc are just fine so it was just the cushions that were looking tired.

Dawn, thanks for the update. It sounds like you also steam cleaned the fabric cushion covers?? What is the fabric content and how did they turn out?

The folks who steamclean our carpet have always refused to steamclean our sofa--they say it would ruin the sofa and wouldn't even do it when we told them we would not hold them responsible.

No, this is an old sofa, polyester fabric, very durable, even though its off white. I threw them in the washing machine on wrinkle free, cold water.

I remember you posting about this! I will have to give it a try:thumbsup2 I live down the street from Kohl's I will have to check it out~Thanks

I just want to clarify; its the steamer that you use to remove wrinkles from clothing and drapes that you can't iron or don't want to. Not the kind of steamer than cleans carpets and upholstery.

I did just get one from Kohl's the one for 27.99 from conair the 1000 watt one, (white with seafoam green). I did try this on my sofa chsuions...It did not work for me.:confused3 so I am back to square one! oh well...
