My second Shark steam mop just died. (And certainly not from over use.) I like cleaning with the steam mop, but the Shark has not held up for me.

Can anyone recommend a good steam mop other than Shark???

I've had my Shark for 4 years, it is the water you are using maybe? I researched before I bought and it was between a Shark and Haan, but the Shark was much cheaper.

We have city water...I just use plain tap water. My first shark was the kind that steamed when you pushed the handle. It last just a bit over a year. I returned it to Costco and bought the new model with the fixed handle and 3 steam settings. Not sure how long I have had it, the receipt is on the box.

You should use distilled water and not tap water.

I have a Bissell Steam Mop, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Bissell-Steam-Hard-Floor-Cleaner-1867-7/dp/B000RPVHZU Mine is 4-5 years old now. I don't like it! It "steams" out too much water and the hardwoods get super wet...moreso than that Shark steam mops do. I hardly ever use it...maybe once every 2 months. The cord is also really short.

I honestly think there still is not a good steam mop out on the market. They all have decent reviews, but I haven't been pleased with my Bissell or my mother-in-law's Shark. I just use vinegar and water now and a washable microfiber pad.

I have a Haan that works really well. Much better than the Shark IMO.

I have a Eureka Envirosteamer that I really like.

I've had a Eureka Enviro for about 6+ years now. I use filtered water from the refrigerator for it. I also recently bought a Haan, mainly for the steamer attachment to freshen up carpet. I love the Haan as well.

I have read many reviews stating that the Shark steamer does not work well, or hold up.

I use the filtered water (reverse osmosis) in our Shark due to the high iron content in our water.

Be glad your first one made it a year...mine that steamed when you pushed the handle lasted only 3 mops! That left me so steamed, I haven't replaced yet.

I just bought this mop at Costco on Friday. DH was like what the hell is this? I told him that I hate a regular mop and this one has magic powers that will make me want to mop lol. He said to keep it but now after reading this, I am not so sure about these magic powers lol.

I have a Haan too and love it. it works great!! I got mine from HSN.
