Stealth Final Payment Date

I generally prefer to take people at face value.

Aha. I pay at the last minute because I prefer to earn my little bits of interest (checking and savings accounts with interest is fun!) rather than let Disney have that fun.
I usually do too but when it's someone's first post and they don't return, that's my first thought.
I have waited until the "last minute" in the past which for me is around 1 week early. Then we finally tried Palo and dh really enjoyed it so I like to make sure we get the day & time we like. Once you're platinum Palo is free so now we really don't want to miss it or have to plead onboard for a reservation.
As long as it's in by the due date there's no wrong way to go.

That's one of the reasons we use a travel agent. She sends us reminders and calls to make sure we are aware of final payment due date. If you book yourself then you take that responsibility on yourself.

We have a TA but I still put a note in my calendar two weeks before the payment is due to remind myself that it's coming up. Then I put one in 10 days before it's due at which point I contact my TA to arrange a date to come into the office within the next few days while still leaving myself 2-3 buffer days in case there is a problem with the payment, payment method or anything else.

Absolutely do this too but, as mentioned above, still give myself 2-3 days of buffer time. The only reason we pay any earlier is because we are Gold we make sure to book at the 105 day mark (if we don't have to pay at 120 days because of taking overseas DCL cruises). We do the same with WDW trips or anything else that requires payment by a certain date.

I'm sorry but every adult should already understand that. You pay your bills on time or you face the consequences. You are responsible for understanding the terms that you agree to. This isn't something that's exclusive to cruising.

Should and do appear to be different things, unfortunately. Not that I disagree with your comments, but "public service announcements" are never amiss.
