Stealing things from strollers

So I just got back from a long weekend at Disney and it was great, a little crowded, but great.

I will start by saying, the things stolen from my stroller were free and I have more at home.

I bought a new stroller for my dd3, because the old one broke and I knew she would not be able to walk around the parks all day, so i got a decent stroller for her. But since this was the first time we were using it, I put some decorations on the handle, so I would be able to find it (which came in handy at 10:30pm in Tomorrow Land), I put a glow in the dark skeleton and a bat hanging from the handle, my dd3 loves Halloween. On our last day there, we went on Pirates and parked the stroller in the stroller area, as we had done for the past 3 days. After the ride, I go to get the stroller, walking in the lines of strollers parked and notice a little girl in a stroller holding the same glow in the dark skeleton that I had on my stroller, weird I thought, but you never know what people bring in, as I get to my stroller, I notice the bat and skeleton are gone, and in all the sea of people, finding the kid with the skeleton is never gonna happen. I do not know for sure, that the family I passed stole my items, I can only assume, since it was the same skeleton and they were walking from the direction my stroller was parked. It wasn't something that ruined the vacation, but it was rude of whomever took the items.

I am just annoyed, that someone would have the nerve to take an item from someone's stroller and give it to their child without a care in the world. My dd3 was upset when she saw the skeleton was gone, and I had to tell her we had more at home and that sometimes people are mean and take things that are not theirs. She got a lesson on why stealing is bad, and how it hurts other people.

Maybe the OTHER little kid just reached out and snatched the skeleton as she was rolling by...

;)

People are amazing, not always in a good way. I really can not fathom the nerve of people taking stuff from others strollers or wheelchairs.

that was another thought I had, which is why I told my dd3, taking things that are not hers is bad. I was more annoyed than anything, if something of more value, like the entire stroller, was taken, I would have been upset

People are amazing, and it is hard to figure out how they think. We went to the beach one year and my son had one of those foam kickboards with a shark on it-$3.50 at Meijer. We would leave all of our beach stuff outside the door to our condo each day so we didn't bring sand into the unit. One day the little girl staying next door was playing with a kickboard just like ours at the beach. When we came back I noticed ours wasn't by the door. My son wasn't overly fond of it so I let it go. We happened to be walking by when the family was packing up to leave. I overheard the mom telling the little girl "don't forget your board" referring to the kickboard. I'm 99% sure it was ours and I have to wonder where the woman thought her daughter would have gotten it. I would have sent my husband out to confront them just on principle, but the dad was a big, muscular, hairy guy! :lmao: He wouldn't have had a chance!

Where did you get your glo-in-the-dark skeleton? Was it one of a kind so it was totally impossible for that other child to have one that was the same? I know it's such a coincidence that the other child has the same skeleton but unless you purchased yours somewhere that the other child's parents couldn't possibly have gotten theirs, then you really don't know for sure. You didn't specify in your post where you had purchased yours. It is getting closer to Halloween and it's possible there are more people who bought that same skeleton.

Of course this is possible but SOMEONE took the thing. She didn't chase them down or anything, she was just irritated. I can understand her feelings.:)

I actually just had a friend email me that they had a real stroller theft outbreak over the weekend. Her entire stroller was taken. I think security told her 10 had been stolen Saturday evening in the MK!

Last year, my 4 year old had just purchased one of those Disney spray fan bottles. She bought it with her own money. I think it was about $17. A LOT of money for a 4 year old. So, we go into our ressie at Tutto Italia and leave it under the stroller. Well, don't we come out and it is GONE!!!!

Who steals from a little kid? I don't get it.

Also, in 2007 I had my ponchos under the stroller. We went into dinner and it started pouring. Afterwards, I told my daughter to hang out while I run and get the ponchos. Well, her poncho was there but mine....GONE!!!! I have since learned to put anything of value in a backpack and take the backpack with me. People are CRAZY!!!!

While I'm in total agreement that nobody should steal anything...

The perpetrator of the theft would have no way of knowing that the sprayer had been purchased by a little kid.

That's why I put everything in my backpack and take it with me. So sad we have to do that. As of yet, I have not lost an entire stroller but that happens too. So hard when a child's things get taken though.

I know it's awful but it's just the way it is...people take things even in Disney World...so I don't leave anything I am not afraid to loose in the stroller. On a side note, we were there last week, and a CM moved my stroller twice in the same attraction and I panicked...thought for sure someone took the whole thing :lmao:

Disney thieves are awful! :lmao:

My kids had a spray fan stolen from our stroller outside the "Seas" in Epcot when they were 3 & 4. My 4 year old had a complete meltdown and one of the CMs noticed her crying. he came up and asked her what was the matter. When she told him what happened he walked over to the stand that sold them and gave her a new one. That made her night.

I have been going with my kids, and leaving things in strollers...nothing like a camera or anything of real value, but autograph books, or ponchos have never caused me concern...UNTIL now.... I guess realizing we have 6 of us and replacing that many would cost us a pretty penny has changed my thinking...

Maybe the fact that I use a fake poopy diaper hanging off my stroller handle has always deterred the thieves from my stroller:lmao:

That's actually a good idea. I think I will conduct an undercover experiment next week when we are there and stakeout my stroller to see if anyone takes the bait!
Book em Dano

To the OP... that really stinks though. Makes you lose faith in mankind sometimes doesnt it?

LMAO One year we were at Sea World and my dad was riding an ECV. We were waiting outside a show, the kids had left fries in the basket of his ECV and this brazen squirrel kept jumping in and stealing fries and leaping back out. We couldn't believe it showed no fear of my dad sitting in the ECV. Needless to say we dumped the rest of the fries. LOL

Regarding the OP's post, some times kids grab things on strollers without the person driving the stroller noticing. It's only later that it's realized the child has something they shouldn't have, and then trying to find the rightful owner is next to impossible.

I'm not condoning stealing, but living with three kids I have seen them snag stuff off shelves in stores, etc. It's definitely possible to miss, especially in a crowded theme park with lots of other people getting strollers at the same time.

Several years ago I went on a solo trip to Disney. When you are by yourself, you tend to notice a lot more things. I was totally amazed at the stuff people left in strollers!! Disney merchandise sacks with stuff in them, cameras, all kinds of bags, you name it!! If I had been a thief I would have been in heaven! I also saw 2 different instances of stroller theft on that same trip. Total meltdown by the families involved. To the OP, sorry that happened to you. The guests at WDW can be really annoying!!!

I think more and more people are born w/o any shred of a concience anymore. if they want something, take it. It's all about ME after all. :confused3 And unfortunately it's an easy thing to learn when parents live by that example.
Sorry OP. :( I for one would have the same conclusion as you did about the skeleton. Given how little many parents even watch or care about their kids are doing (however watching what others are wearing in the form of the offensive shoe Crocs! Is perfectly sane. :scared1: :rotfl:), I'm sure they just grabbed it because they wanted it and the mom either figured she'd never find the owner becue she didn't see little Suzy Angel Sunshine steal it, or maybe dad bought it. :rolleyes1 And NO, that still doesn't give anyone an excuse to keep it. Just giving a possible explanation.

These threads HAVE been helpful to me tho, even though they are depressing. I'm going to be looking at doing things a bit differently this time.
